Sticking your head in the sand doesn't pay off

The government moratorium on loan repayment ends in November. However, the coronavirus crisis continues and many people have minimal incomes or are even out of a job at the moment. How to deal with the current situation if you still cannot repay your loans? We asked for you.

“If the client's situation has not changed or has worsened during the coronavirus crisis, we recommend contacting the creditor immediately. A reputable lender always has mechanisms to deal with such a situation and can find an interim solution that suits both parties,”

states Miroslav Zborovský, ombudsman of Home Credit clients, who expects that approximately 15-20% of clients will need an individual approach after the end of the repayment moratorium.

His words are also corroborated by the spokespersons of the largest Czech banks. The most important thing is communication and timely problem solving. You can always find a way to work things out.

A temporary solution? Modification of payments

One of the temporary solutions is the option of modifying the payments as currently needed. For example, MONETA offers the possibility of temporary deferral of payments for up to 3 months for clients who find themselves in a difficult financial situation. However, it should be noted that, unlike the government's moratorium, this is an option of deferred payment that is still interest-bearing. You can request a deferral via the online form. You don't have to worry about a significant financial burden even after the three-month deadline. The payment plan will be extended accordingly for the repayment of additional costs.

Covid-emergency

If a three-month delay is an insufficient solution for you, MONETA will offer a mechanism in the long term in the form of "covid-emergency". It is a combination of the adjustment of the interest rate adjustment and payment plan. The complete program, including details, will be presented in early December.

If the client makes an effort, banks offer solutions

Česká spořitelna offers its clients individual deferral of payments for 3 months or the reduction of payments for 6 months, and to its corporate clients, individual deferral of payments for 3 months or individual assessment of the possibility of reduction of payments for up to 6 months.

Banks are meet their clients halfway in this difficult situation. If you cannot pay, AIRBANK, RAIFFEISEN BANK, ČSOB and other banks offer the option of talking to their bankers. They will discuss the situation with each individual and offer a specific solution. Contacting the bank in a timely manner and reporting the problem is extremely important to find the ideal solutions for your situation. You can find more information on the particular bank's website or the helpline.

"We have been helping clients get through this challenging period since the outbreak of the first wave of coronavirus, when our clients took advantage of the deferral of repayments on almost 65,000 loans,"

wrote Patrik Madle, a spokesman for ČSOB and Poštovní spořitelna.
