Much Ado About Nothing by William Shakespeare

The plot of this comedy by William Shakespeare penned in 1599 takes us to Sicily and introduces us to two couples: the loving couple Claudio and Hero and the slightly catty couple Benedick and Beatrice. Claudio and Hero want to get married, but a trap has been set for the loving couple. Hero is humiliated in front of everybody on her wedding day due to various circumstances. For this reason, her father decides rather to pronounce her dead and Claudio in the end makes do with marriage to her cousin. In the end it turns out that this is not her cousin, but Hero herself.

Hero has another cousin – Beatrice, who is argumentative and dismissive, in particular to her friend Benedick. The others try to get them together and also conceive a trap. These two fall in love in the end and get married despite everything.

A famous play as performed by Divadlo Bez Zábradlí

In the case of the same play directed by Guy Roberts, the plot is set in England at the time of the Second World War. The comedy does not play out on the battlefield, but is broadcast via a radio studio to the men on the front to support their morale. The narrators of the play are thus volunteers, pilots and women from the Allied Army.

Guy Roberts’ take on this comedy is very original, amusing and novel and thanks to this, the play has been received very positively.

The main roles are played by Veronika Žilková, Roman Zach and Martin Zbrožek and the overall atmosphere is complemented by live music and other radio commentary. If you find time in your schedule, this comedy is certainly worth a watch.

The work of Kariny Malling in DOX

This list does not include all cultural events offered by our beautiful hundred-spired Prague. That would make quite a long list. Prague is slowly but steadily becoming a cultural metropolis where luxury and art both have their rightful place.

Offer of the autumn gallery

We have selected two inspirational and interesting exhibitions from the November offer.

We would like to invite you to the Black Hole exhibition. What hides behind the mysterious Black Hole – an upcoming exhibition by the non-conforming artist David Černý? Find out for yourselves in the luxurious Dvorak Sec Gallery from 27 October until 29 November.

The Stanislav Libenský Award ceremony for 2016 takes place in DOX until 14 November. This annual international glass-works competition exhibition will feature the best works of young talents and art university graduates from all over the world.

Concert halls will come to life with famous names

Famous Brits will take over the O2 Arena towards the end of the year.

Rod Steward, who is an important music icon of the 1970s, will perform on 7 November. Later on 26 November, you can look forward to another British performer, the ever-popular amazing Elton John, who turned 69 this March.

We also recommend a visit of the Karlín Forum music club which will host the legendary Placebo on 8 November.

Must-see theater plays

November is also dedicated to Great Britain, as in this month two Prague theaters will present several of William Shakespeare’s famous plays. The Estates Theater will feature Othello, The Moor of Venice and the Bez Zábradlí Theater will feature Much Ado About Nothing with a star cast.

If Shakespeare is not your cup of tea, you should visit the popular Dejvické Theater on 1 or 16 November. The Vzkříšení (Resurrection) play is a set of short stories by an unknown author, full of love, pain and joy. The cast includes Martha Issova and Ivan Trojan.
