In 1990, Studio Olgoj Chorchoj was founded by Michal Fronek and Jan Němeček. Their first projects focused on experimental sofas and concepts of luxury interiors. Since then, they have been engaged in industrial design, furniture design, and, above all, the interconnection of architecture and interiors. They are not afraid neither of modern robotic technology nor traditional hand-crafting.
Are you wondering what these two words mean? Olgoj Chorchoj is a mythical sand worm, allegedly found in the Asian Gobi desert. Although there are testimonies of several eyewitnesses and there are many legends about this desert worm, its existence is very dubious.
An important part of the creations of the whole team is interior design and the reconstruction of historic buildings and industrial buildings. Here we can see the amazing work of shaping space, modeling its atmosphere with the help of furnishing the interior. Regarding buildings, Olgoj Chorchoj has always precisely laid out and elaborated an internal arrangement that takes into account the mutual coexistence of the owners with the things that they want to be surrounded by. It attempts to connect the exterior with the interior.
A joint partnership was formed with the glassworks of Zdeněk Lhotský, Fused Sculpture Pelechov, specializing in the unique technology of casting large glass blocks. From the collaboration with Eva Eisler and the Najbrt graphic design studio, carbon tables and bowls were created and are located at the Metropolitan Museum in New York. A number of interiors for PPF were also created. Work with Kavalier glassworks is also worth mentioning – the drink set Look is a nice example. A luxurious collection of glasses called Pan Vajíčko (Mr. Egg) was produced in cooperation with Května Glassworks.
We must also mention the serial production of the world-wide beer glasses for Plzeňský Prazdroj produced by the company Rastal. Lars Kemper, Pavol Mikuláš and Petr Mikošek cooperate on the glass projects.
