The Day of Architecture festival runs until October 7. It celebrates its 10th anniversary this year and despite the current unfavourable coronavirus situation, the organizers managed to prepare a full program for its visitors. The festival offers up to 300 architectural tours, excursions to normally inaccessible buildings with a guide, bike rides or debates and lectures in more than a hundred towns and villages.

"Since 2010, the program of the Day of Architecture festival has been based on tours for a limited group of people and the events are held mainly outdoors, so we believe that this year's event will take place to the planned extent. Of course, we will respect all safety measures and believe that this year will be a dignified celebration of the 10th edition of our festival, "

said Marcela Steinbachová, director and founder of the Day of Architecture festival, before its opening. However, several events have been canceled after all. In Prague, these are, for example, the City Hall of Prague 7, the Glass Palace, the House at the Black Madonna or the Municipal Library Vozovna.

What to visit in Prague?

In Prague you can head to the city wilderness below Barrandov, to Šaloun villa, to the island of Štvanice or enjoy a walk through the area of Masaryk Railway Station or the first year of the Uhříněves’ festival of Lights. The public will also be able to get an extraordinary look into the former sausage factory rebuilt into an office space in Nusle or the boiler room of the General University Hospital - an unknown technical building by architect Karel Prager. There is also a tour of Cubist architecture with historian Marie Jelínková Ťupová.

The Prague program also includes realizations by Adolf Loos, Josef Gočár, Otakar Novotný, Jaroslav Fragner or Zdeněk Fránek, the recent holder of the Architect of the Year 2020 award.

Where to in Brno and surrounding areas?

In addition to Prague, the Day of Architecture commemorates the personality of Adolf Loos in Brno. You can visit Bauer's mansion, the only preserved work of Loos in Brno. The Day of Architecture will also head to the former labour colony of the Divišova district, the so-called Shanghai of Brno. In Moravia, you will also be able to see the low-energy sustainable house in Horka nad Moravou, which was awarded the prestigious architect Grand Prix in 2007.
