The Strings of Autumn International Music Festival has been with us for 23 years. This year it will take place from October 15th to November 13th and will offer luxurious musical productions from jazz to hip-hop. Tickets are already for sale.
The British pianist and singer Laura Mvula will launch the festival on October 15th in the Karlín Forum. There is a good reason she is called Nina Simone of modern times. You can look forward to the legendary saxophonist Charles Lloyd, who stunned the audience in Prague 8 years ago as part of the Strings of Autumn. This year he will perform on October 31 at Rudolfinum. A few days earlier, on the 19th a luxurious concert of the Semafor Theater Orchestra will happen, which remembers the legendary duo Suchý - Šlitr and their TV show Recital 64.
As for the hip-hop line, expect a strong experience. One of the most famous and influential hip-hop bands of all time will arrive in Prague and celebrate 30 years since their most important album. Welcome De La Soul from the USA on November 13th in the Lucerna Grand Hall!
For the first time, the luxurious festival will fill the newly created DOX+ space, where the world-renowned composer Michael Gordon will personally present three compositions. The Timber track will be unique, with 6 percussionists playing wooden planks.
Another new venue is the X10 theatre, whose gritty spaces will welcome saxophonist Luboš Soukup's in instrumental tandem with African guitarist Lionel Louek on the 18th of October. And less than a month later (November 8), the outstanding Czech cellist Jiří Bárta will play 6 suites for solo cello by J. S. Bach.
Other performers who will delight you include jazzman Fred Hersch (October 22, St. Agnes Convent) and the most famous American quartet, Jack Quartet (October 25, La Fabrika).
You can find the whole programme on the Strings of Autumn festival website.
