On one side the minimalism presented by Stella McCartney, on the other the extravagance of Alexander McQueen… Both luxury British brands presented their new FW 19/20 collections at the Paris Fashion Week. While wildly different, they have one thing in common. They both remained faithful to their characteristic signature traits.
Alexander McQueen, was a fashion giant, who wasn’t afraid of pushing boundaries. He was renowned for his audacious outfits, and it’s all well that the brand continues his legacy. We will admire the talent and the work of the fashion genius forever. On the other hand, Stella McCartney tries to be more subdued in her creation of luxury collection, and does so by depending on minimalism. And it is precisely this style which won her the contest today.
It was by a hair’s breadth! In her new luxury collection, Stella presented not only beautiful outfits, but foremost sustainable fashion, which she’s been promoting for a while, which endears us to her even more.
Collection is an embodiment of power, and is supposed to enable its wearers to feel as comfortable as possible. In the audience of the fashion show you could find Lewis Hamilton, Alexa Chung and Anna Wintour.
The creative mind behind the Alexander McQueen FW 19/20 collection is Sarah Burton, who replaced the departed McQueen, and replaced him as creative director in May 2010. She’s therefore been creating unique collections for almost 9 years. In her latest collection, she’s returning to her roots, and she’s harking back to the north of England, to areas surrounded by milling towns and wild nature. In the collection you can find a mix of luxury fabrics, punk style bracelets and necklaces, but also delicate and feminine frills. The FW 19/20 is therefore a collection of a myriad tastes!
The Paris Fashion Week is a sort of ‘battle field’, where the greatest of fashion giants in the world vie against each other. Everyone wants to improve in the next year, wants to be more creative, and most importantly, to set trends of the coming season. This time, we plotted two British competitors into such a battle. Stella McCartney or Alexander McQueen?
So ladies first, then. I’ve liked Stella for years now, and that’s why it will be no surprise to anyone that I like her collection. Most of all, I like the airy outfit in the shade of pigeon grey. The dress with lightly decorated shoulders have a clear cut, which will definitely appeal to most women. Furthermore, the longer colourful earrings add an extra needed flair, and I’m thrilled by the over-the-knee boots. It’s a perfect outfit for a busy week day in the city.
And now, classics by McQueen. I’m absolutely taken by the double-breasted chequered overcoat, which moves gradually from a dark blue to a grey. It’s phenomenal!!! Again, it’s an article of clothing, that anyone of us would 100% use. To sum up the points, I’d say this ‘battle’ is quite undecided, as I’d be able to choose from either.
