The Truth about Paris: The “City of Love" Does not Exist!
Paris. To tourists it seems beautiful, to city dwellers (I consider myself one of them) slightly hectic. People don´t have the time for themselves, let alone for love. On St. Valentine´s day you can easily get stuck in a traffic jam, spend eternity at a florist, restaurants are overcrowded, and you cannot park in front of a shop.
Paris knows how to win you over
Paris is the ´city of love´ for one simple reason: it is beautiful! The architecture, luxurious city panorama, magic lighting, champagne and oysters created the ideal conditions for those in love. They travel from around the whole world to be able to take a stroll through Paris with its magic atmosphere. French, too, is considered to be the sexiest language in the world. Voilà...
The luxurious shopping windows of the boutiques, tons of flowers, hearts and the sweet atmosphere of the city will engulf you on St. Valentine´s day. Some stores have a greater turnover than on Christmas Day, and that is a strong economic reason why this holiday should be supported. But don´t look for love behind it all!
On the day devoted to all lovers there is also a downpour of brides everywhere. St Valentine's day is the ´right´ reason for a wedding and where else than in Paris! But is it a wedding for love, or just following of a trend?
How is this seen by the French? The atmosphere of love is all made by the tourists.
When having a walk on St. Valentine's day in Paris, prepare for a flood of tourists with balloons and their own photographer. It is them who create the famous pink mist over the French capital. I prefer to remain at home!
The French perceive St. Valentine´s as a commercial affair. But they are distinguished and purchase flowers for their partner. They care what others think about them. But don´t expect a visit to Tiffany´s!
