Pierpaolo Piccioli vs. John Galliano

On the side of Valentino, there is Pierpaolo Piccioli with his women’s outfits with designs of blooming flowers. On the side of Maison Margiela, there is the extravagant, and rebellious collection Artisanal by John Galliano. Luxury brands presented their new Haute Couture SS19 collections full of bold and expressive colours at the Paris Fashion Week. However, the only thing that connects them are precisely the colours. In all other ways there’s an abyss of difference between them!

Valentino: Naomi refuses to age

Whenever a modelling star from the 90’s appears on the catwalk, we clap enthusiastically. And that’s what happened at the Valentino’s fashion show as well. The brand invited the exotic beauty Naomi Campbell to walk on the catwalk, she wore a luxury black garment from transparent tulle, and she proved to everyone that she has no plans to age anytime soon.

The collection of low-cut necklines and airy ruffles

Alongside Naomi Campbell, The Paris show displayed an array of airy garments with frills, and low-cut necklines, bows, feathers, puffed sleeves, fringes and flower motifs. We were in a dream just thinking about it... That’s high tailoring, as it should be.

Maison Margiela: One big chaos

The extravagant brand Maison Margiela didn’t just skim the surface, but had a deeper subtext in the collection Artisanal. The creative director, John Galliano, is attempting to warn against decadence in art, film, literature and life with the collection, and is doing so in his own way.

‚It occurred to me, that overabundance could lead to more minimalism. But in order for that to happen, I felt that we have to emotionally express the chaos we currently live in’ John Galliano

The result of his endeavour? Graffiti and pictures on the walls, and a jumble of outfits, that aren’t shy in combining the incompatible. It’s true, that after seeing such chaos we truly, out of our deepest hearts, long for unending minimalism. Mission accomplished!

Názor PROTI PROUDU: Ornella Koktová

The fight of the two Titans in the battle of Haute Couture in Paris has a decisive winner.

The deserved winner is Pierpaolo Piccioli for Valentino, whose collection is an embodiment of true luxury and elegance.

What appealed to me the most was the oversize cream garment with long sleeves reminiscent of traditional flower-ornamented tapestry. It is so romantically conceived, and yet luxurious at the same time! However, it would be suitable to wear to a daylight event, such as a wedding, rather than a ball. And we also can’t omit the ingeniously conceived cocktail outfit consisting of fluorescent orange leather pants, and a blouse-cloak from ostrich feathers. Bravo! Just beware of the possibility of a slight tightening of the neck while in the bathroom.

And Maison Margiela? It all seemed to me like a purposeful rendition of the book ‘We children from Bahnhof Zoo’. Only Galliano evidently mixed up Berlin with Paris and no one knows why..
