Ladislav Sutnar (1897-1976) can be described as a pioneer who bravely implemented his ideas in the field of applied design, toys, puppets, architecture, and exhibitions. The cognitive background of his work Inspired by the ideas of Bauhaus, he began to transform the artistic thinking of his generation. He continues to be a leader in influencing and expanding the language of visual communication. He sought the highest quality of everyday life environment.
Hand painted and manufactured toys
One would think that designing toys is a marginal issue for such a great designer. But here too, it turned out that Ladislav Sutnar does everything honestly and with an artistic spirit. The designs of his toys reflect his thoughtful direction: to create a toy that would in itself be a work of art and a bearer of higher design values. And he really managed to do just that.
His luxurious toys combine new pedagogical practices, abstract art and the originally intended cheap industrial production. In the end he opted for the hand made principle. The body of the toy is made of quality beech massif. The other parts are made of softwood. The color is not infantile, he stays true to the basic colors of white, black, and brown. The originals are stored in the Museum of Decorative Arts in Prague.
Exotic animals from the 1930s
Although much time has passed, the toys are still modern, and the MODERNISTA association offers its clients a unique opportunity to purchase such luxurious jewels for their children. There is an elephant, rhinoceros, camel and walrus. They are animals that children do not normally play with. It's not a dog, a kitten or a teddy bear, but they can still attract a child's imagination, develop their playfulness and inventiveness.

Nowadays, parents emphasize the origin of toys, as various "Chinese" counterfeits can be directly identified as dangerous. These toys, however, are produced with love, sensitively and originally. Even small children can be exposed to high art, which Ladislav Sutnar's toys definitely are.
