The National Museum organized the 5th year of the international meeting of barrel organ players called Flašinet žije! (The Barrel Organ is Alive!) This monumental, luxurious national building is celebrating 200 years since its founding, and you can celebrate too.
The sounds of the playing machines started at 10.00 at the baroque church of St. Nicholas on the Old Town Square, then at 2 pm in Kampa and also at 7 pm in the Czech Museum of Music. The celebration of 200 years since the founding of the National Museum was celebrated via barrel organ music by musicians from the Czech Republic, Germany, Slovakia, Austria, Switzerland, Poland and France. Many of us also took the opportunity to visit the Czech Museum of Music, which breathed its rich history on us. The construction of the museum began in 1654 and it served as a temple, warehouse, post office, and even barracks.
The end of the festival was held at the Czech Museum of Music, where a concert of hand organs and a luxurious musical instrument called a player piano was played. Songs like Non, je ne regrette rien from Edith Piaf or Halelujah by Leonard Cohen were played. After the musical performance was over, one could take a closer look at the luxurious barrel organs, but also try out what it's like to play them.
