The powerful and globally acclaimed designer Karl Lagerfeld once again pulled out all his trump cards at the Haute Couture Fashion Week in Paris, and presented an incredible fashion collection by Chanel for this autumn and winter. The FW 18/19 collection features luxurious materials in inspiration by the Fifties.
Every year, the luxurious glass pavilion built in 1900 is transformed into a beautiful and breath-taking house of fashion, where the latest trends and collections from the most famous fashion brands are presented. The same went for Paris Fashion Week this year. As always, Chanel designer Karl Lagerfeld transformed the Grand Palais into something exclusive and unforgettable, that gives his collections the right atmosphere. When designing this collection, he was inspired by the romantic surroundings of the Seine River, and expressed this perfectly in the luxurious outfits.
Karl Lagerfeld really played with this collection to the best of his ability. We like his consistent loyalty to the classic style of the iconic Coco Chanel, to which he merely adds a modern touch and the right flair. The collection features both classic tweed and trendy elements. The colour palette mainly plays with shades of grey, but diverges occasionally towards bolder tones like purple and green. The coats are complemented by leather gloves, which together with the hairdos add a touch of rock.
The most highly-anticipated part of the show was the part that presents the Haute Couture dresses, which are always the perfect finale. It too was dominated by grey or classic black, but the designer really pulled out the stops with the details. The gowns from the Haute Couture collection are embellished with perfect embroidery, which gives them the proper flair and a luxurious Parisian touch. We like the refinedness of the frocks, where elegance competes with a bold, sexy look.
Haute Couture by Chanel? Nothing much, in my view. It seems that Karl Lagerfeld is running out of muses. How else to explain this “robbery” of classic suits from Coco Chanel or the colourful circus-like creations at the end of the show? Tsk tsk!
If at least the cut of the suits would help women achieve a perfect figure (which they should). Unfortunately, the exact opposite happened here. These “elegant” suits made even the anorectic models look like plus-size butterballs. The wide thick skirts didn’t help much either. To tell the truth, I didn’t find a single nice suit… Which is rather catastrophic for CHANEL!
If anybody thought the second half would be better, they were sadly wrong. It may even have been worse! For instant, the peppermint-coloured outfit with the horrific cat on tom… that might be too much even for a Romanian circuit tent! Honestly, nobody in their right mind could possibly wear that.
