MOIST vs. DRY
Cigars can be divided into two basic groups. One consists of cigars with long filler (moist) and the other of cigars with short filler (dry). In moist cigars, the filler consists of whole leaves, usually made by hand, which should retain the humidity at which they were manufactured. The highest-quality cigars are from the Caribbean, with luxury brands including cigars from the Dominican Republic or Cuba. On the contrary, dry cigars are made of cut tobacco leaves and need not be kept humid; most of them are made by machine.
HOW TO CHOOSE THE RIGHT CIGAR?
How a cigar will taste depends on several factors. One of them is the tobacco used in its production, the type of cigar and how long it matured. It may happen that the most expensive cigar isn’t the one that really fits you. The country of production can say a lot about cigars. Cigars from Honduras and Cuba have a very remarkable flavour, while those from the Dominican Republic are milder. The most important factor for real connoisseurs is the thickness of the cigar. The strong it is, the more delicate the flavour. Even if the tobacco is the same, the thickness of the cigar will affect its taste. It’s also good to know how much time you will have for the cigar. A short cigar requires only 10 minutes, while a long cigar will need at least 45 minutes.
The most luxurious cigars include those that are hand-rolled. Moreover, the selection of quality cigars here is very diverse and there is plenty to choose from.
