53. MFF KV: 12 Competing Films, Tribute to Miloš Forman and a Soundtrack with Affleck
The 53. Karlovy Vary International Film Festival 2018 will again present competitive as well as non-competitive pictures. The programme includes also films by Czech creators. Only such movies can compete that were made after 1. January of the previous year and did not have a première elsewhere than in their own country of origin. The main prize of the competition section of the festival is the Crystal Globe.
Films in the main competition of the Karlovy Vary 2018 festival
A dozen films will be introduced in the competitive section of the festival. The Czech luxury imprint here will be made by three of them - Domestik by Director Adam Sedlák, from the environment of professional cycling enthusiasm. In co-production was also made the film I don't care if we go down in history as barbarians by Romanian Director Radu Jude. The picture takes a closer look into the dark history of the Romanian army that was in 1941 responsible for the persecution and massacre of the Jewish population on the Eastern Front.
The trio of films will be concluded by a Czech film directed by Slovenian Director Olmo Omerzu, Winter Flies. The film promises a view of a boyhood friendship and an indomitable desire for experiences, even if it is not always clear in advance what we want to experience.
Tribute to Miloš Forman and a prize for Jaromír Hanzlík
Part of the luxury festival will also pay tribute to the late director, Miloš Forman. His legendary picture Loves of a Blonde will open up the film festival. Part of the festival programme is also a Czech drama, Searching (1965), with Jaromír Hanzlík in the leading role. The latter will this year take home with him The Festival President's Award, handed over by actor and presenter Jiří Bartoška, for his artistic contribution to Czech cinematography. The Karlovy Vary festival will on this occasion present a movie of Antonín Máša and Jan Čuřík Searching, made in 1965.
A new soundtrack with Affleck
The festival soundtrack will this year feature the famous actor, Casey Affleck, who last year in Carlsbad received The Festival President's Award. The shooting of the luxury soundtrack was again taken care of by the many-year author of Carlsbad signature tunes, director Ivan Zachariáš. It was shot in January in North Hollywood.
