Creative director Donatella Versace added a fair bit of flair to the new Resort 2019 collection. She abandoned the classical motive, so typical for this luxurious fashion brand, and instead introduced original and elegant fashion for independent women.
Everyone who knows Versace is surely aware of what kinds of collections the brand usually introduces. The medusa patterns, which are present in most collections, are on one hand hard to miss and original – but on the other hand, a bit of change can’t hurt. And the new Resort 2019 collection is a shining example of that. Simpler models, decorations and interesting shapes are what entice today’s women, who are less interested in crazy extravagance but rather seek out chic fashion with style.
Donatella Versace knows how to do fashion. The Resort 2019 collection introduced bold silhouettes featuring strong shoulders and a thin waistline emphasized with wide belts and metallic bands. It brings interesting blazers leading into thin skirts and layered clothing, which has become a hot trend of late.
We also like the collection of jackets with pleated pants, which perfectly emphasize the waistline and are decorated by prominent zippers. The designer didn’t shy away from using various colors either – the luxurious collection is dominated by autumn colors such as red, brown, camel, black, foxy, as well as softer colors such as sweet pink and light blue.
The Resort 2019 collection also features luxurious evening gowns decorated with sophisticated beads and embroidery.
Even though the luxurious collection is mostly dominated by simpler models, you’ll find that it boasts plenty of extravagance too. Some pieces are decorated with colorful patterns such as comics, medusa and others. Basically, the collection has something to offer for every woman, and we truly appreciate that.
Versace Resort 2019? I think that’s just a retro collection, where Donatella decided to think back to her life in the 80s and 90s. I mean, seriously, when I look at my photos from when I was born (1993), I see my mom wearing the kind of stuff that’s introduced in this collection. A black leather skirt, black-and-white jacket, beret, high heels, large earrings and the massive black belt with a golden clasp. BINGO! Back then, she victoriously brought that stuff home from the “Dôme des Galleries Lafayette” shopping mall in the center of Paris, and all of Prague looked at her in awe. So from now on, just don’t throw anything away – even if it seemingly becomes “OUT”.
To be honest, I personally am not a huge fan of the retro style in fashion (unless we’re speaking about classics such as Chanel). I think that the fashion industry should also strive to continuously innovate what it does, but in this collection I simply don’t see that happening. But I don’t want to be only negative – there are a few pieces here that I wouldn’t mind wearing. For instance, the pink mini-pants with a white belt and golden clasp. Yeah, it’s a bit retro, but also very chic and great for an afternoon coffee with a friend!
On the other hand, the colorful cocktail dress with fringing, white purse and black sandals with a huge flower near the ankles – that had a truly fresh and modern look which immediately caught my attention. It’s a truly original outfit and absolutely atypical in all ways! Ideal for a dinner in the city center.
