The Art Basel fair always serves us a range of diverse art forms. You will always be able to find here something that you have never seen before. Or have you already seen a luxury pool of gold?
The art of Sarah van Sonsbeeck from Amsterdam is always a cross section through all sorts of media. She puts emphasis on space, her heritage from the time she studied architecture. Her luxurious installations are of different types and are usually located both indoors as well as in exteriors. We were impressed by a number of works with a common denominator, and that is gold!
Sarah van Sonsbeeck is a well-known artist, exhibiting her luxurious work throughout the world, trying to change our perception of certain things. For example, here specifically gold. By giving a new shape to a classic gold brick, she makes us think about the value of gold not in terms of a commodity, but about the value of art. It is a balancing act between the inner and intellectual value.
Gold is thus elevated to another level, enriching us not only by things that we can purchase with it, but being much more enriching on another level. An artistic and aesthetic one. The gold puddle confronts two contrasts; a puddle, which is something dirty, associated with something as precious and luxurious, as gold.
