He bribed politicians as well as the police. Who opposed him was ordered to be killed. In the end, on 2nd December 1993 he was found with a bullet in the head. Who shot him remains a mystery. The story of the infamous gangster and drug dealer caught the attention of Spanish director Fernando León de Aranoa, who put Bardem Javier in the leading role. You can see for yourself if the film called Escobar is as successful as the luxurious autobiographical series Narcos, as early as 16th June in our cinemas!
The autobiographical series named Narcos was a favourite among the audience, but not so among the offspring of the famous cocaine kingpin. Although he has died, the mafia was of thinking lived on in the family. In fact, Pablo did not control the empire only by himself.
His right hand was his brother, today 71-year old Roberto De Jesus Escobar Gaviria, who is responsible still for Escobar´s business. In its prime it could allegedly earn the brothers a billion dollars per month. The love of luxury and money is therefore not only inherited from father to son, but also from brother to a brother and Roberto is engaged in a court battle with the creator of the Netflix series. In his words they muddled some facts from the history of the whole of the cartel. It will therefore only be a matter of time to see whether thanks to the movie success the offspring of the famous cocaine baron sue Javier Bardem, too.
The feature film Escobar, which comes to Czech cinemas in June, was created according to the book Loving Pablo, written by his mistress, journalist Virginia Vallejo living in asylum in the USA. She was transported here in 2006, which supposedly saved her life. In her luxury book she devoted space to the unprecedented level of Colombian corruption in all spheres of public administration. The book which became inspiration for the producers has only been published upon her gaining asylum in the USA. In the film she is portrayed by famous actress Penélope Cruz. She has already played a wife of a drug king once, in 2001, in the cocaine drama Blow with Johnny Depp.
They already have had their film première; in Venice and Cannes. The joint project proves that they are a perfect team privately as well as in front of the camera. Bardem himself believed in success of the luxury picture so much, that he invested his money and time as a producer, too.
