The story of women's lingerie of the best Italian quality began in 1954, when Ada Masotti decided to open a factory producing clothing focused on the accentuation of feminine beauty. Her first studio was established in Bologna, a city famous for its production of silk fabric and other luxurious materials. She offered her customers products in boxes lined with velvet, as if they were not clothes but actually jewelry. And then the brand name was born - La Perla (the pearl). Now, it represents the source of the ultimate in feminine intimate apparel as well as a source of a full range of designer clothing for both men and women.
Over time, this Italian luxury brand started to offer more than just lingerie, and it added other types of clothing including nightgowns, comfortable home wear, handbags and even swimwear. As a true luxury brand, La Perla has been able to take advantage of some of the world’s top fashion designers including Jean-Paul Gaultier and the Brazilian designer Pedro Lourenço. The La Perla line has also been worn by famous models such as Liu Wen, Sasha Luss and Valery Kaufman.
For the current (2016) autumn/winter season, La Perla decided to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the bikini. And, how else to do so than by coming up with a special swimwear collection. The “bikini” as we know it in the modern sense, first appeared in May 1946 in Cannes, France as the “Atome” with the slogan "the smallest bathing suit in the world". But it was actually two months later, at a fashion show in Paris Spa, the Piscine Molitor, that another version of this bathing suit was introduced, this time called the “bikini” and subtitled "bikini - smaller than the smallest bathing suit in the world". It was a triangular bra with string shorts in the style of today's thong. The name of the swimsuit comes from the Bikini Atoll, where an American nuclear test took place at about this time. The name for this new type of swimwear was therefore meant to symbolize a revolution in the world of women's beach fashion.
La Perla is celebrating the anniversary of the bikini's coming to the fashion world with a “WIRED” bikini collection, which is glossy, with metal details and delicate flesh-colored tulle and transparent microfibers, creating interesting effects on the body and, at the same time, highlighting and helping to accentuate the feminine figure. The collection references minimalist design trends and allows the top part of the bikini to be worn universality - it is up to the owner to decide whether to wear it to the beach, or as underwear.
Black and White Glossy Autumn 2016
And besides the swimwear, what else will we see being offered up by La Perla’s designers? Black and white and shades of beige to powdery pink. Key elements remain the "Autografo" - exquisitely embroidered silk and tulle. Playing with materials, simple lines and refined details - that is this year's autumn from La Perla.
With this brand, there is also enough to entice the men to shop for themselves. A slim silhouette, the best materials and superb workmanship are hallmarks of La Perla men's collection.
If you love a casual look, but you insist on luxury materials and the finest workmanship, then the soft sweaters, shirts, shoes, belts, briefcases and other pieces from the La Perla brand are a perfect choice.
