His Cuban origin is undeniable in his strong personality and temperament. He did not mince words about Donald Trump and got quite heated. Did you enjoy Natali Ruden's fashion show?
Beautiful. Natali has one peculiarity, her handwriting. On the street, everyone automatically recognizes her models, because she has specifically processed cuts.
As a fashion designer, did you see inspiration from any other fashion brand in that collection?
I did not. It is difficult to work with organza, moreover with organza with a metal thread, because it is a very hard material and one needs to know how to work with it. Not every designer can do this. I also had it at my last fashion show and I must say, that it was a hard work to process everything and arrange it. She had very nice models. I liked something less and something more, but that's normal. I have the same with my collections, some things are successful and some aren't.
You started writing articles on Facebook where you discuss not only current fashion topics. You last spoke about Melania Trump at the inauguration. What did you mean by that?
I meant it in a good way. Smart people understood it and others criticized it. Everyone, who had some comments, and I was looking at them, these are people who don't understand fashion at all. And to make it clear, I did not criticize Melania Trump. I was saying she was gorgeous. The model fitted her like a glove. I know her personally, I know what she's like and what she looks like. The hat clearly said "please, don't kiss me and I don't want to show anything more". People didn't understand that. Half of the people who criticized the article didn't even read it fully. They didn't understand my point. Donald Trump, whom I also know personally by the way, is against Obama and Biden. But she chose a designer who also dressed their wives. That was incomprehensible to me. But as I said, I didn't criticize her, I praised her, and I stand by my opinion. It suited her a lot, but it was not for that moment. She looked like a soldier.
And what is your opinion on Donald Trump and his stance on migrants?
I do not understand it. I don't talk much about politics, because it's all the same to me. I make fun of it the same way as here. I say, "nightmare, that's Okamura". I don't understand people who are not of a pure race and can do such a thing. Okamura says he is Japanese and is against migrants and so on. The same goes for Trump. His mother is from Ireland and I think his father is probably from Canada, so he is also not a pure American. But mind you, I agree with him on one thing. The deportation of illegal immigrants yes, I agree with that, they should leave. But you can't lump people into one bag and make such a fuss about it.
What about his provision for men and women?
I also don't understand that. I'm gay and I don't care. If he wants to recognize only man and woman, that's his problem. I'm homosexual and I don't care what others think. It's just orientation. I am a Catholic, I am baptized, confirmed, and I am a believer.
For me, the Lord God created man. If he created me as I am, it's because he loves me. And he loves me as a homosexual, as I am.
What are your future plans? Can we expect some kind of show?
I do not plan for the future because I don't know what will happen tomorrow. I am Cuban. I live my life to the fullest every day. Yes, there are plans. We always have some idea. There may be new products, new cosmetics, new collections, etc., but I don't make plans. I go step by step, what happens, happens.
