The US authorities have chosen a special form of transport to ensure the safety of their citizens residing in Haiti. German Chancellor Olaf Scholz wants to deepen the importance of majority voting in the EU against unanimity. The Fed does not intend to change interest rates even with declining inflation. In the US, an amateur fisherman managed to catch an alligator instead of a fish.

Helicopters are rescuing Americans from Haiti

According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, flights of American helicopters from the main city of Port-au-Prince started on Wednesday in connection with growing violence in Haiti. The first flight transported more than 15 people to Santo Domingo in the Dominican Republic.

The ministry spokesman estimated that more than 30 US citizens will be able to leave Haiti daily on several helicopter flights. The country has been engulfed in a war with criminal gangs, and the army, even with the help of other state security forces, is not capable of pacifying criminal groups. There are armed men in the streets and violence and looting occur regularly, Reuters agency reported.

Olaf Scholz spoke about the need for better decision-making capacity of the European Union

Restrict the unanimous voting system, which is a pillar of EU policymaking, and replace it with a majority voting system. This is the plan of the German Chancellor Olaf Scholz to improve the decision-making capacity of the EU, as presented to German members ahead of the upcoming summit.

"We need a Europe that is capable of action. A Europe that in a world where ten billion people will live by 2050, will be strong and capable of action. We need to improve decision-making mechanisms, more majority decisions. That will be discussed too,"

Scholz said according to ČTK.

Fed does not intend to hastily change the policy of increased interest rates

The Chairman of the Fed (central bank of USA), Jerome Powell, stated on Wednesday that recent high inflation rates have not changed the fundamental "story" of slowly decreasing price pressures in the USA, but he also added that recent data have neither strengthened the central bank's confidence that the fight against inflation has been won.

After the meeting, at which representatives left rates unchanged and stuck to the outlook for three rate cuts this year, Powell said the timing of these reductions still depends on whether the officials will be more confident that inflation can continue to fall towards the 2% Fed target in an economy that continues to surpass expectations, reported by Reuters agency.

Fishermen in Tennessee accidently caught an alligator on a fishing rod

An unusual catch was made by a fisherman at one of the lakes in the US state of Tennessee. Instead of a pike or another fish, he caught a completely different animal species. Approximately a meter-sized alligator. Alligators are not native to this part of Tennessee and are considered first-class wild species, which are species that are inherently dangerous to humans and can only be held by exhibitors with a permit or commercial breeders.

The alligator was transported to Little Ponderosa Zoo and Rescue, a rescue facility for exotic animals in Clinton, Tennessee. Although such protected animals cannot be hunted, the fisherman should not face any punishment, as he caught the alligator by mistake, according to the AP agency.
