In our modern society, homosexuality, which is part of the LGBT movement, is perceived as a normal part of life. It's definitely not a taboo like in the glory days of legendary singer Freddie Mercury, who is considered one of the greatest icons of the gay community.

"Being gay in today's modern world is certainly not as terrible as it was 30 years ago. People are much more tolerant and, let's be real, every girl wants to have a gay best friend,"

dancer Štěpán Ruszkowski openly told the LP-Life.com editorial staff.

Štěpán is a homosexual man who, like many other guys, had to go through a coming-out process, which he considers to be one of the most difficult trials of his life.

"Unfortunately, there are still a couple of people who can hurt you with words and who might still believe that one can choose homosexuality or catch it somewhere in the subway or from their classmates. I wish all gay people going through their coming out would had enough strength to pull through this stage of their lives, gather all their courage and show others that we are actually just like everyone else, only with one special trait,"

the dancer and fitness trainer from Prague would like to tell all homosexuals.

Which Czech personalities aren't hiding their homosexuality?

We can find several men in Czech show business who frequently appear alongside their partners and aren't ashamed of it. At the same time, each of them performs a different profession - one is a well-known youtuber, another dresses Monika Bagárová and the next one pursues a career in acting. Let us introduce:

Ivan Lupták

Thirty-four-year-old Czech actor Ivan Lupták often gets cast in the roles of lovers, as confirmed by his role as Vojtěch Kratochvíl in the series Ordinace v růžové zahradě II. Last year, the actor admitted in an open interview that he lives with another man, with whom they aren't quite considering raising a child yet.

"I was honestly wondering if I should go for it. And I came to the conclusion that I shouldn't. I don't feel the urge to spread my genes. Maybe there's a reason for the fact that I'm into guys. Maybe it's because I shouldn't have children,"

said the theater and film actor in an interview with the daily Právo.

The actor's family and close friends have known about his orientation since his university studies, where he got into an open-minded environment in which no one had a problem with homosexuality. Only then did the charismatic actor open up to his family, which was what he'd feared the most. His two older brothers were the first to find out; he confessed to them while drunk.

Lukáš Macháček

Leading Czech fashion designer and stylist Lukáš Macháček, who dresses celebrities such as singer Monika Bagárová, claims that his presentation is relatively "dark", just like himself. Thirty-one-year-old Lukáš is indeed quite mysterious and protects his privacy, but he revealed to our editorial staff who'd made him come out with the truth.

"My ex-boyfriend helped me admit it, but I don't really like remembering it, so I'll refrain from further comments,"

the widely acclaimed designer told the LP-Life.com editorial office.

The handsome Lukáš Macháček also admitted to us that he is currently single. And which world-famous gay man inspires him?

"There are no gay men who'd inspire me. Everyone I follow is heterosexual,"

he added with a smile.

Karel „Kovy“ Kovář

Twenty-four-year-old Czech youtuber Karel Kovář, known mainly as youtuber Kovy, opened up abouz his orientation in his book O všem (About Everything) and inspired many young people with his sincere confession. Some fans were shocked by his coming out, but many of them no longer have to be afraid of speaking openly about their own orientation.

"The vast majority of comments were positive, people supported me. On the other hand, a significant number of reactions implied that I should kill myself. But I'd been more or less prepared for that. The positive wave is much bigger, but the negative things resonate in you a little more,"

confided Kovy.

The popular Youtuber, who isn't afraid to comment on politics and world events, has been together with stylist Miroslav Romaniv since 2019. As Kovy himself claims, his counterpart isn't really too keen on the world of influencers; he actually finds it rather funny.

Which foreign celebrities belong on the list of famous homosexuals?

Among foreign personalities, we can find a lot of very successful men who have gone public with their affection for people of the same sex. These include, for example, Elton John, who is actively involved in the fight against AIDS, and Ricky Martin, who is rightly proud of his sexual orientation. Both men had also had a relationship with female partners in the past. And how about other world-famous gay men?

Neil Patrick Harris

American actor and director Neil Patrick Harris became famous for his role as the dressmaker Barney Stinson and his quote "Legendary" in the sitcom How I Met Your Mother. In real life, however, he prefers men and considers himself a faithful partner.

The charismatic blond actor went public with his homosexuality in 2006 and he first appeared alongside his life partner, David Burtka, at the September 2007 Emmy Awards. Following the adoption of a law allowing same-sex marriage in New York in 2011, they announced that they would like to get married. They tied the knot 3 years later and now they are raising twins, a boy Gideon Scott and a girl Harper Grace, born in 2010 through a surrogate mother.

Wentworth Miller

American actor Wentworth Miller became famous as Michael Scofield in the series Prisonbreak. He publicly admitted his affection for the same sex in 2013. At a time when he was fighting major depression, he received great respect from his fans for his confession. As a teenager, he had tried to commit suicide several times because had often been confronted with opinions that homosexuality was a disease and a bad thing. To this day, the handsome actor fights against prejudice.

In 2019, the actor decided to stop playing heterosexual roles and admitted that he was getting hate mail on Instagram targeting his attraction to the same sex. At the same time, he added that he was definitely not going to shut down his social networks because of that.

Ian McKellen

Eighty-one-year-old actor Ian McKellen, best known as Gandalf from The Lord of the Rings saga, has been openly gay and one of Britain's leading activists since 1988. He believes that the public coming out helped him in his career because he became a more confident and better actor, and regrets that he hadn't admitted his sexual orientation earlier.

"Acting became not about disguise, but about telling the truth. And my emotions became much freer. I was able to act better as I think you are able to do any job. Everyone's better if they're being honest,"

means actor.

Sam Smith

Twenty-eight-year-old British singer Sam Smith first spoke publicly about his sexual orientation in May 2004. At the same time, he admitted that his family had known about it much earlier.

"When I told my mum she said she always knew, she said she knew when I was three, so I didn't really have to go through a coming out,"

the singer admitted openly.

In the past, the well-known singer used to date the 13 Reasons Why actor Brandon Flynn. In 2018, the couple went their own separate ways after a nine-month relationship, saying that the reason for their break-up was lack of time. The multiple Grammy and Oscar winner was utterly wrecked by the end of the relationship, but now he seems to be ready for a new love.
