Mt. Everest

Highest mountain in the world has raised its price tag

Nepal will increase the fees for permits to climb Mount Everest by more than 35%, making the world's highest peak more expensive for climbers for the first time in nearly a decade. Revenues from permit fees and other expenses of foreign climbers are a key source of income and employment for the cash-strapped country, which is home to eight of the world's 14 highest peaks, including Mount Everest.

The permit to climb the 8,849 meter high Mount Everest will cost 15,000 dollars, said Narayan Prasad Regmi, the Director General of the Ministry of Tourism, announcing a 36% increase in the fee from the original 11,000 dollars, which has been in effect for almost a decade, CNN reported.
