Shoulder pads are back!

The spring/summer collection is carried in the same earthy tones as the last year´s one. At the Milan fashion week the brand newly and somewhat unexpectedly presented a return to the eighties. The fashion show was conquered by a trio of shoulder pads, asymmetry and nostalgia, which jointly made up the SS19 collection.

Designers literally love the 80´s

The eighties are a bit of a hit with world fashion designers already. In the past homage was paid to them in luxury collections of for example Gucci or Tom Ford. This year´s fashion week the same was done by the Italian Max Mara.

 The adventure starts here!

The SS19 embodies the image of a modern woman - brave, daring, decisive and proud. It is precisely the realisation and adoption of these values that the luxury models of Max Mara endeavour to communicate. Together with the new inner self, every woman can then jump straight into the world of never-ending adventure. Which items in particular does the brand mean?!

SS19 puts emphasis on stylish accessories

Hit the Spring/Summer 2019 season are, in the eyes of the luxury Max Mara brand, overcoats, jackets and windbreakers with wide shoulders, asymmetric overalls, midi dresses, sweaters with gathered sleeves, slim pants in combination with a skirt or trousers with wider trouser leg around the ankles. All of this is complemented by stylish accessories in the form of headscarves, gloves, high heels, sunglasses and luxurious bags over the shoulder.

Yellow? Bull´s eye!

De facto each model from the new collection evokes the eighties. Grey trouser suit? A piece that seems to have dropped out of a fashion catalogue over thirty years ago! But we praise Max Mara for a perfectly selected tone, which breaks up any banality and boredom and gave the SS19 the so needed zest. Luxurious yellow hits the spot beautifully!

In Milan the brand presented a collection that will not insult anyone, nor, however will it exactly thrill you...

Max Mara and its complete absence of futurism is in my opinion not at all a minus point.

Perhaps everyone expected to see in the new collection for the next season something that has never been seen before. Here this was spoiled by a parade of grey banal suits. But even so, to my surprise I am quite enjoying the new collection. And as far as Max Mara is concerned, we see a far richer colour palette than is usual...

Personally, at first glance I liked the vibrantly yellow model, consisting of longer shorts, pointy high heels, a handbag over one shoulder, and a sweater with ruching along the entire sleeves. In my view this is like a giant dose of optimism at the beginning of spring when in Prague and elsewhere in Europe there are still remnants of that gloomy grey mood of the vestiges of winter. And that is exactly what I would need at that time. And you can bet that you will charge with energy everyone around you, too!

Another sure thing, it seems to me, is a white one-shoulder shirt dress tied round the waist and white high heels. It is elegant and even though it is not some cheeky, sexy mini dress, it radiates sex appeal. It reminds me of Sharon Stone in "The Basic Instinct". It is suitable for both business meetings in the middle of the week as well as a Sunday brunch during a prolonged weekend at chateau Herálec, 173 km from Prague.

The greatest HITS of the Max Mara collection according to Ornella are to be found at the beginning of the photo gallery below the article.
