The professional jury was won over by Martin Kohout; not only by his humility and enthusiasm, but also the extraordinary technique, where he recycled his own oil paintings and one of the materials used was therefore also a painting canvas. Same as his previous luxury collection it glorified the beauty of the female body, and the one for this year is inspired by the sculptural lines and feminine elegance!
The SS19 collection, bearing the name Les Nymphéas, is inspired by the water-lily garden of Claude Monet in Giverny. The luxury models breathe originality, implicitly reflecting today's society together with its deeper aspects - loneliness and depression, consumerism and an individual - as concerns of our current lifestyle. Another inspiration for Martin Kohout then became luxury movies Marie Antoinette and Somewhere by American director, Sofia Coppola, for whom these are key subjects.
The designer returned to his popular oil-painting canvas also in case of his SS19 collection. However, there were newly-added natural materials in the form of luxury silk, lace, cotton and faux leather, which lend the models the hallmark of casual wear and light commercialism. We are therefore not looking at any wild creations but rather tender romance.
In comparison with the collection presented in March, we find strong similarities and so we ask ourselves: Will Martin Kohout come up the next time with something completely new, refraining from the fresh but already slightly known techniques, or will he remain true to his style?
One would have said that for spring/summer these are quite cool shades, but on the other hand, why not? I have just recently read an article that human persuasion is a very powerful tool. Such artificial persuasion of "air conditioning" in these heat waves that have been crushing us in the last years this certainly is not to be sniffed at!
Love at first sight? Definitely the light-blue top with shoulder straps made from a very refined fabric full of fine details. To be teamed up with pure white pants and silver-white high-heel ankle shoes. Sleek, fresh and yet still somewhat unconventional. For a brunch, garden parties on the terrace of the American embassy or just a picnic on the lawn of Chateau Mcely? This model is absolutely perfect for any of these occasions.
Of course, there was also a model that for my own purposes I named "yet another crazy MBPFW model". It is a white suit most likely made of organza. I wouldn´t that much mind the gently translucent trousers. However, that blouse is sheer hell. The worst is the gathering of material around the waist. Who would voluntarily wish to look like a lunatic asylum inmate in 5th month of pregnancy?! I am afraid that no one.
