Elegant refinement in the style of the Stepford wives combined with the novel pomposity typical for deluxe collections by Marc Jacobs. This is the picture shown to viewers who visited New York fashion week on Wednesday evening, or had the opportunity to view the new SS19 collection.
The American designer opened the fashion show with a gold model made from shiny silk, complemented by lurex tights. Kaia Gerber appeared behind him on the runway wearing a bright yellow model evoking the fashion of the past.
As well as the traditional splendour in the form of deluxe hats, face netting, maxi-ribbons or pleats, which we could also see in his FW18 collection, the designer presented simpler outfits reminiscent of the fashion worn by the Stepford wives of the nineteen sixties.
Marc Jacobs approximated their typical visage not only with the elegant models consisting of button-up cardigans, high-waisted skirts, deluxe suits or simple and perfectly designed coats and dresses, but also with the accessories ands period hairstyles he used.
The runway was overrun by “Stepford wives” thematically clothed from head to foot. Marc Jacob’s models held unusually shaped clutches in their hands, they had elegant scarves tied around their necks and extremely elegant buns on their heads. The creative designer also remembered stylish gloves and shoes, which finished off this absolutely perfect look.
The SS19 collection became a refreshing show for NYFW and we are certain that everyone will be able to choose something here. Marc Jacobs prepared deluxe models for fans of extravagance and also for fans of elaborate elegance, and that is what we like!
And this naturally applies to his newest SS19 collection. But to tell you the truth, I think most of his collection is a show of works of art, rather than a collection that I would be able to wear under normal circumstances.
One of the items I was really enthusiastic about is the classic cream-coloured coat with the maxi-belt around the waist. Worn with a bun, lady’s gloves and a mini handbag, it makes a perfectly elegant outfit, like those normally seen most recently in the nineteen fifties. These items are also so classic that they will never go out of fashion and you can wear them practically anywhere. I would certainly wear something like this to the Velká Pardubická races, which will soon take place!
And then we have the bizarre section. This time I chose the canary yellow coat that Kaia Jordan Gerber wore. It reminds me more of the glossy raincoat I kept putting on my Baby Born doll in 1999 rather than a coat. But would I wear this item along with that “rag” on my head somewhere where people could see me? Thank you, but no!
