The most striking thing for anybody at first glance is the unconventional sculptured shape of the tower, which is adapted to offer the most stunning views. At certain points, the façade reveals the interior core of the building, thus creating unique residences, oversized terraces and skyboxes which stand out from the main body.
As for the structure, the building uses 129 pillars drilled to a depth of 65 metres and covered with massive foundations 8.75 metres thick. Construction of this luxury skyscraper commenced in 2011. You need not worry about its unconventional irregular shape. It was tested in a wind tunnel from 36 directions. The skyscraper was officially completed in 2016 and consists of 3 buildings. The main tower is 314 metres high, and there is also a tower with shops and a parking tower towards the rear of the compound.
In translation, MahaNakhon means “great metropolis”. Its shape merges into the city with its movement between sky and ground, floating quietly into the public space of the city and created a neat square. The luxury building brings internal luxury brands and global restaurants to the main business district of Siam in the city centre. The lower floors house the luxurious The Bangkok Edition Hotel, while the higher floors belong to the Ritz-Carlton luxury residence.
If you spend a few days in Thailand, don’t miss a visit to the top floor of this unique skyscraper. At the summit of the luxury building, there is an observatory that covers several floors and offers unique views of exotic Bangkok. Thanks to this world-class building, the city can attract visitors to discover the luxurious and modern aspect of this Asian city.
Yet dusk is falling over MahaNakhon. By 2021, it might be overshadowed by a much higher skyscraper, which Bangkok is planning to build. It should be called Grand Rama IX Super Tower Iconic and it could reach an astonishing height of 615 metres!
