Cedar – a king among woods

Something curious, cute or ostentatious? This car is all of these things rolled into one. At first glance, the car is reminiscent of a small boat. Its measurements are: length a mere 3,030 mm, width 1,480 mm and height thanks to the windshields instead of a full windscreen only 970 mm. The car is almost completely wooden. The exterior bodywork panels, of which we count a total of 86, are made from cedar, one property of which is that it ages and changes its appearance. The material also starts to bend over time. The car also has a wooden frame made of birch. The Sumitomo Forestry company collaborated on what was mostly manual production, this being a huge company which is predominantly active in forest administration, wood processing and manufacturing of various products made of wood, including houses.

Specifications and philosophy of the Toyota Setsuna

The whole of the Setsuna is encircled by a silvery aluminium band which also houses the lights. The chassis has a wheelbase of only 1,700 mm. The pair of luxury seats are reminiscent of garden chairs, partially upholstered in wine-red leather with headrests. We know of the Toyota drive unit that it is an electric motor with energy provided by six lead-acid batteries which are enough to provide a range of only 26 km. One important piece of information is that this is a functional model and not just a mock-up.

The luxury Setsuna is designed to be handed down from generation to generation. The physical changes in the car, meaning the wood, reflect the bond established by its owner, together with the experiences gained. This is the corporate philosophy of the envisaged car.

Are you interested in learning whether there is a nail or two hidden away in this luxurious-looking car? The designers did not use any nails or screws at all, only pins. The longest interconnecting ones join the individual parts of the frame to hold this luxury car together.

Life without gravity and interweaving of perspectives – this is one way to describe the new series of luxuriously painted pictures by the young artist from Barcelona, Cinta Vidal Agulló. In her unique paintings, she interestingly mixes architecture with the influence of surrealism. Welcome to a world which ceases to be affected by gravity and all known perspective.

Together Alone (50 x 50 cm)

Cinta Vidal Agulló was already painting as a child and began her studies at Escola Massana in Barcelona at the age of 16. She began work in Taller de Escenografia Castells Planas in St. Agnès de Malanyanes, where she learned from Joseph and Jordi Castells to love scenography, something which has influenced her work greatly.

The influence of scenography

Scenography focuses more on space than people themselves. It is capable of luxuriously playing with light and perspective in order to create a habitable environment. The starring role in her pictures is thus also played by space, not people.

A luxurious state of weightlessness and interweaving of perspectives

Cinta Vidal Agulló defies gravity in her work and departs from architectural convention. Various perspectives intersect in her pictures and the artist herself claims that each work points to the fact that one’s internal personal perspective of life need not necessarily conform to the reality around us. Her pictures are full of colours and various characters regularly seen in everyday life. In the regular world and the world of luxury.

Her pictures say: we all live on one planet, but in different ways. The artist plays around with everyday things and uses places we all know, although her pictures illustrate how difficult it is to connect everything that fills our everyday space: work, ambitions and dreams.

Acrylic on wood

She never stops experimenting in her work. She worked as a volunteer for various clients and in the end entered the world of art with her own work, the originality and unique nature of which arouses emotions in everyone. She works with acrylic paints which she uses to paint on wooden boards.

Cinta Vidal has in particular displayed her latest works in the Thinkspace Gallery in Los Angeles. Apart from paintings, the artist also engages in illustration and you can come across her work on the labels of special bottles of wine and beer.
