In the footsteps of Kim Jones?
Virgil Abloh succeeded Kim Jones as creative director after long seven years. The question was what the American designer will come up with. Will he follow his predecessor at least slightly, or will he set off in a completely different direction, giving the brand a new distinctive form? The last collection of Louis Vuitton FW 2018 was in the spirit of natural tones, accentuated by bright yellow, orange or red, but what about this year?

Palais Royal was adorned by a rainbow
The luxurious show which took place in the historic Palais Royal, established in the 17th century by Cardinal Richelieu, was opened up by a sweep of snow-white. Seventeen such models preceded the moment when on the rainbow-coloured catwalk appeared outfits of earthy hues, then changing into bold colours and patterns. And in that moment it was clear:

The parallel between the last collection of FW 2018 and SS 2019 would be hard to find, and it is no different comparing it with the one of last spring. The only element that the collections have in common is that of flowers. But while Kim Jones last year reached for traditional Hawaiian motif, Virgil Abloh dressed the models into blossoms of meadows and fields.
Extravagance as a mix of luxury and street
It is as if the collection of SS 2019 was created somewhere between luxury and street style. The luxurious suits and long coats are unquestionably the foundation of an elegant wardrobe. Flowered jackets and bomber-style tops, wider trouser legs, denim suits and batik tops, trousers, shorts, sweatshirts and neon jackets are compared to that crazy pieces which we appreciate on the catwalk, but in real life one would find it a bit difficult to find a suitable occasion.
A luxury collection worthy of Paris Fashion Week
The conclusion? Virgil Abloh found the necessary balance. He created several luxury pieces, which should be in the wardrobe of every stylish man, but at the same time let his hair down a bit, demonstrating fashionable cutting-edge pieces worthy of the Paris Fashion Week catwalk!

Great disappointment! How did the spirit of the old continent evaporate?
The Louis Vuitton as a synonym for the word "elegance": first-class style, timelessness and top quality in one. Yes, that was Louis Vuitton, as we have known it during its entire 164 years of existence. But now it´s all changed!
The post of creative director of men's fashion, has been taken up by a thirty-eight year old American, Virgil Abloh. Unfortunately, I have to say that at least for me, the entire picture of French elegance and chic was broken up into a thousand pieces.
This fashion show really brought me a deep disappointment. Batik sweatpants as from a hippie market somewhere in Ibiza? Ugly zipped vests with giant pockets? Oh dear, where is that touch of lost classics, we devoured on the silver screen, portrayed by greats such as Sean Connery, Robert Redford or Jean-Paul Belmondo? Such fashionable pieces by this mark have always been aspired to by successful men around the whole world. And now?! Who would want to look like made-up Kim Kardashian West in the first row in some kind of a blue wind-breaker? Or as Travis Scott with braided hair and strangely coloured sneakers? Please, give us something a bit more west European ... I do not need to watch how this brand is turning into another Mc Donald's chain!
Just the gesture as at the end of the show of Virgil running to meet Kanye West in absolutely appalling sweatpants was enough. What was that supposed to be? Is Kanye West perhaps some demi-God, to save all African-Americans who hold a high post?! I am sorry to say that though this worldwide globalisation the spirit of the old continent is dissipating very quickly indeed. Now even in the field of fashion, and that is great deal of pity
