This year at Oscars, Czech cinematography will be represented by a picture of our successful director, Bohdan Sláma, to fight for an Oscar nomination in the foreign language film category. The luxury film Ice Mother was chosen by the Czech Film and Television Academy from a total of 13 proposed options. Among them was also the superbly animated movie The Oddsockeaters, Svěrák´s film Barefoot, Dirt or the second part of the trilogy Garden Store: Defector.
Ice Mother is a film, which last year won the award for the best screenplay in the competition of the luxury New York festival TRIBECA. The Oscar nominations will take place as early as 23rd January and are waiting with bated breath if our Ice Mother passes in order to go overseas!
In the Czech Republic the film was very positively evaluated, the latter describing not only complex relations of three generations, but also the life story of a fateful meeting of hard-bitten Brona and widow Hana. The luxurious story gives hope to all, that life does not end because of higher age, that we can still encounter breakpoint moments and that it is possible even in more advanced age to turn your life around.
The luxurious film with pleasant humour and great performances of actors Zuzana Kronerová, Pavel Nový, Tatiana Vilhelmová, Václav Neužil, Marek Daniel and others in our opinion deserve the Oscar nomination and Ice Mother should definitely visit LA!
