I Am Glad that the Czechs Drink my Wine, Says French Actor Pierre Richard

Unforgettable French actor, Pierre Richard, born Pierre-Richard Maurice Charles Léopold Defays has just visited Prague for a few days. Another reason, apart from the celebration of the 10th anniversary of the foundation Beauty for Help, established by model Taťána Gregor Brzobohatá, is the introduction of new luxury wine from his vineyards. It lies in South French Languedoc, on the peninsula of St. Martin near the luxury town of Gruissan.

"I have fallen in love with this place at first sight, I couldn´t resist and bought a local estate there," the actor confessed.

When I bought the place in 1986, it included about eight hectares of vineyards. These were gradually expanded to 20 hectares. After eight years he started to produce his own wine, constituting mainly of blends. In the very first year he obtained an award for quality.

And which varieties does the actor actually produce?

"Grenache, Syrah, Mourvèdre, Carignan, Cinsault as regards production of red and rosé wines and Grenache Blanc or Bourboulenc in respect of white wines," describes the actor who produces around 80,000 bottles per year from his own vineyards. "I am happy that people in Bohemia enjoy my wine and that it sells," he added, saying also that the price tag is around CZK 400.

Although the famous actor currently celebrated his 84th birthday, he looks great and has not yet given up acting either. This year four movies were produced and currently two more are being shot.

"Pierre Richard is a proof of how important it is to have a fantastic family around you, so even at his age he can do anything; that´s a great thing," said Gregor Brzobohatá, who´s enjoyed many-year friendship ties with the actor. During his stay in Prague the actor stopped off at the luxury Prague Botanical Gardens to plant wine and thus joined other personalities who came to support the project Roots of Personalities in the Botanical Garden. "I have already planted a tree in the Amazon basin. Today I have grape wines not only in Switzerland, but also here in Bohemia, which pleases me very much. Ecology is close to my heart, and to plant new trees is very important for the world," he said. 

Demon Fut De Chene 2011 AOC, Chateau Bel Eveque

A blend of four varieties, namely 60% Syrah, 10% Carignan, 20% Mourvédre and 10% Grenache. Luxurious wine has a very deep colour and high viscosity. The aroma is of overripe fruit, blackberries, blueberries, liquorice and a pinch of vanilla. Guide price: CZK 380

Petrus Richardus 2011 AOC, Chateau Bel Eveque

Cuvée consisting of 35% Mourvèdre, 35% Syrah, 20% Carignan and 10 % Grenache. Interesting and pleasant aroma combining dark fruit, blackcurrants and blackberries with violet. Guide price: CZK 420

Chateau Bel Eveque 2012 AOC, 135%

A slightly dominant variety of Syrah (40%). In it production were, to the same extent, used vats of American and French oak, with the wine ageing for 12 months. The colour is very dense, magenta. Blackcurrants, cranberries in combination with tangy spiciness. Guide price: CZK 440
