The birth of Rococo and the iconic "shell" ornament

Rococo was born of European art at the end of the 18th century. It was most popular in France. It is characterized by lightness, decorativeness and freedom. The artists in this epoch created works that were supposed to intrigue with their fine and sensual aesthetics. The concept of Rococo comes from the French word "rocaille", which refers to the decorative shape that has become the symbol of this epoch. It is an asymmetrical ornament reminiscent of a shell.

Rococo as part of luxury interiors

In interior design, Rococo was reflected in the furnishing of rooms as spaces filled with art – beautiful and decorative furniture, decorative statues, cut glass mirrors and luxurious wallpapers. The walls and ceilings were often decorated with wall paintings that complemented the rugged interior. Rich gilding was also abundantly applied to decorative objects, as well as entire interiors and exterior stucco.
