Guadeloupe constitutes the two islands of Basse-Terre and Grande-Terre that are separated by a such narrow strait that they are considered as being one. There are also 3 smaller islands, which are ideal for romantic excursions.
Guadeloupe: A Caribbean Paradise
The Caribbean, where there are white sands, an azure sea, colourful underwater worlds, palm trees that offer shade on the beach, tropical fruits, luxurious cocktails, exotic dishes and beautiful sunsets. This is also what the island of Guadeloupe offers in addition to the impervious forest, the active volcano, the thermal springs and the underwater world.
The West and East seen as Back and Forth
Pointe-à-Pitre, the capital of Grande-Terre and the largest town is located on the eastern part of the island. You will not find any higher hills or mountains there, but instead both banana and pineapple plantations. It was on the island of Guadeloupe that Christopher Columbus was supposedly delighted to encounter his first banana.
In contrast to the idyll in the East, the western part of Basse-Terre island is much more dramatic. There is La Soufriére, a majestic volcano, which is still active, and at the same time the highest mountain. In addition to that there is also a thick rainforest with deep valleys, high waterfalls and natural thermal springs. For its beauty and its virgin nature this area has been declared as a National Park.
The infinite diversity of the island
The island of Guadeloupe is perfect in its diversity. There you can indulge in romantic sunsets, fill your days with a thermal spa, a volcano trip, diving through the amazing waves of the Caribbean. Sunsets veil the island in bright hues and a magical atmosphere. At night you will fall asleep to the mysterious sounds of the tropical fauna.
