It looks like everyone with two legs and two arms strives to help in this pandemic, and fashion brands are no exception. Luxury fashion houses Gucci, Louis Vuitton, Moncler, Giorgio Armani, Yves Saint Laurent, Versace or Prada, as well as the popular Swedish H&M chain store, decided to support the fight against the coronavirus. In addition to financial aid, they are also distributing hard-to-get supplies such as disinfectants or face masks.

H&M supported the WHO Fund

If someone invented an effective cure for the coronavirus that could be used immediately, the whole world would sigh in relief. The COVID-19 Solidarity Response Fund could be a way of achieving that. It was set up at the request of the World Health Organization (WHO) for the very purpose of raising funds to support the research of vaccines, tests and treatments, as well as to provide medical professionals with necessary supplies. The H&M Foundation contributed an amount of $ 500,000, which is a little under CZK 13 million, to the fund.

"We are all experiencing an extraordinary situation which requires as many as possible to get involved to enable response efforts. The H&M Foundation’s contribution will be used to protect vulnerable patients and health workers in the front line through the establishment of intensive care units and access to protective equipment. We encourage everyone that want to help to get involved,"

said Diana Amini, Global Manager, H&M Foundation.

Millions for Italian hospitals

Luxury fashion houses didn‘t want to stay behind and strove to help those in need. Their bank accounts will also be several million lighter. Moncler announced that they would donate EUR 10 million, which is approximately CZK 272 million, to the construction of a new hospital in Milan. The hospital should be equipped with four hundred intensive care units. Designer Giorgio Armani contributed EUR 1.25 million (over CZK 34 million) to Italian hospitals and institutions.

LVMH: Help for France

The French LVMH group, which includes brands such as Louis Vuitton, Christian Dior, Kenzo, Bulgari or Fendi, sent $ 2.2 million (over CZK 56 million) to the Chinese Red Cross and decided to expand its production by the hard-to-get hand disinfection and hydroalcoholic gels. These products will be supplied free of charge to the health authorities in France. LVMH also promised to order 40 million face cloths for France from China.

Gucci and Versace also lent a hand

LVMH's direct competitor, the Kering conglomerate, which associates brands such as Gucci, Yves Saint Laurent or Balenciaga, also chipped in and donated more than a million dollars (over 25 million crowns) to the Chinese Red Cross. Versace sent the same amount to the organization.
