I can't think of anything more heartwarming than dogs. Be it actual dogs or puppy photos. Not even babies make me soften up as much as these small furry creatures. And I'm not the only one. We are officialy the nation of dog owners. And mushroom pickers, of course. But mushroom pickers already have applications for recognizing mushrooms. Dog owner were behind, but that's rapidly changing. All lovers of these four-legged furry buddies are cheering, because a new Czech startup, Fiddo, created an app for the general public, which will change the lives of all the people who never go out without a bag for excrements.
I don't have a dog, because the poor thing would have a sad life. I cannot even feed myself regularly, let alone another living being. But maybe it will change one day...
I don't know if you've ever realized, but pets are a huge business. We are willing to spend a fortune on them. I know people who refuse to go to the dentist because white fillings are expensive, but they don't mind paying tens of thousands for their dog's surgery. And to think that people eat these beautiful creatures in Asia! In Greece, there's an abandoned dog at every corner. We, Czechs, are heartbroken, while the Asians are licking their fingers. What a contrast!
A long time ago, an important lady from Cuba came to the Czech Republic. I don't know who she was anymore, but the media interviewed her a lot. Back then, the lady said something I remember till this day: "In my next life I want to be born as a dog in Prague." That says it all. I would like to be born as my grandmother's dog. He is treated like a king. When I come over for lunch, the dog gets served first, then me. I'm trying not to be jealous of him and failing miserably.
So how does the new app work? It offers, among other things, features such as joint search for lost dogs or a special dating service for dogs and their owners. That sounds pretty cool to me. Most people meet on Tinder and similar portals nowadays, but I think there is nothing more romantic than to find love while walking your dog.
The app is in the development phase, wich means all proper dog owners can influence its further development. Of course, data is being collected. If it were upon me, I'd add a map signifying locations with the largest concentration of dog poop along with a list of faces belonging to bad owners who don't collect their dogs' excrements. Personally, I think these people should be behind bars, because a person that hasn't stepped into dog poop yet probably never goes out.
It takes a special kind of idiot to come up with a saying such as „stepping into dog poop brings good luck“. Because of this bad habit, the town hall in Zlín had to forbid people from walking dogs in busy parks. Proper dog owners who collect poop are naturally rioting and they demonstratively took their dogs out to the streets. It was totally hilarious, but the officials pulled the plug and the decree will most likely be repealed.
Interestingly, the developers are playing with the idea of artificial intelligence to help with the search for lost animals. It would be able to determine the perimeter in which the dog could be moving in a certain time frame after the loss was reported.
Based on its findings, the app then sends users information about missing dogs. First to those who are the closest, after which the perimeter increases according to how far the dog could theoretically make it. I can't wrap my head around it – can you? In any case, the plans and goals of the new application are high. I hope to get myself a dog once, because I'd like to belong to this dog owners club. Personally, I believe that if you love animals, you're bound to be a good person.
How about you and dogs? What do you think about the fancy advances of the third millennium? Is this already too much, or would you have liked to use it ages ago?
