With a population of over 11 million people, the capital of the Chinese province of Hubei was an ideal place for the coronavirus to start spreading at the end of 2019. Long months after the outbreak of the world-wide pandemic, a sufficiently large team of World Health Organization (WHO) investigators finally arrived. Their first findings are very surprising.
"The virus was already widespread in Wuhan in December 2019, which is a new finding,"
the chief investigator of the mission, Peter Ben Embarek, said in an interview with CNN. In December of the previous year, more than a dozen different mutations of the virus were circulating in Wuhan. The historically first patient, identified by China on December 8, 2019, has no history of travel, which means he must have gotten infected right in the city. As of December 2019, almost 200 cases had reportedly been backtracked. The WHO would like to get their hands on thousands of blood samples from the city, which China has not yet allowed them to examine.

The government of Prime Minister Andrej Babiš will address an increase in the compensation bonus today. The bonus goes to the self-employed affected by the government measures in connection with the pandemic situation. Its daily amount could increase from the current CZK 500 to CZK 1,000. Moreover, according to the proposal of the Ministry of Finance, this increase could be effective retroactively from 1 February and the compensation bonus would no longer have to be linked to a state of emergency. Government officials have had a long weekend full of negotiations with the governors, who finally asked for a new state of emergency to be declared for the next fortnight yesterday afternoon. The government promised to pass a new pandemic law in exchange, which should replace the state of emergency at the end of February.

Ten years ago, the 14th Tibetan Dalai Lama, Tändzin Gyamtso, set a significant date. At the age of ninety, he should decide on his reincarnation. After the failed uprising against the Chinese occupation of Tibet in 1959, the Dalai Lama fled to India, where he established a government in exile. He had originally hoped that his exile would be temporary, but at the moment his return to his homeland is very unlikely, despite the fact that the Dalai Lama keeps repeating that he is not seeking to separate Tibet from China, all he wants is a sufficient degree of autonomy. Therefore, it now appears that he might choose his successor, the 15th Dalai Lama, in India. There is even speculation circulating that his successor could be a woman. China wants to take advantage of this and choose a new Dalai Lama in Tibet who will support the idea of full Chinese control of Tibet.
"The Tibetan people will never accept a CCP-appointed Dalai Lama,"
said Tenzin Tseten, a researcher at a Dharamshala-based Tibetan political institute.

Just days after the release of the documentary Framing Britney Spears', directed by Samantha Stark and distributed by the Hulu platform, Netflix decided to jump on the train of madness around the former pop princess. The streaming service takes advantage of the fact that things around the pop singer have been really busy in recent months. Fans think that she is in the relationship with her young partner against her will, since he cooperates with her father. Britney has been considered incompetent since her mental breakdown in 2008. Her father, with whom the pop star has a very complicated relationship, has been her legal guardian for thirteen years. Filmmaker Erin Lee Car, who specializes in real crime documentaries, has jumped on the wave, and her Netflix documentary should reportedly feed these speculations, bringing some satisfaction to the fans who advocate various conspiracy theories. The exact release date is not yet known.
