By all indications, French President Emmanuel Macron's support among voters is gradually declining. However, unemployment is unfortunately rising in our country, especially among women. And did you know which carmaker has ambitious plans for electric cars?

A strong submarine earthquake measuring 8.1 on the Richter scale occurred a few hours ago northeast of New Zealand. Authorities immediately issued text message warnings about the impending tsunami and sirens started to blare. Many people, among them students, fled to high places. Fortunately, the worries turned out to be unfounded and the waves rolled over without significant damage. No loss of life has been reported. At the moment, there is no danger of tsunami anymore, according to the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA).

"It's hard not to feel like New Zealand is having a run of bad luck, with residents waking up today to a tsunami alert amidst the Covid-19 restrictions,"

said 40-year-old New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern.

Due to the current coronavirus situation in the Czech Republic, the unemployment rate is expected to rise. The share of the unemployed among economically active citizens reached 3.3% in January 2021, which is an increase of 1.3 percentage points compared to January last year. The unemployment rate varies greatly between genders. In the case of men, it is 2.5%, but in the case of women, it has already climbed to 4.4 percent.

"The latest wave of quarantine measures has a significantly higher impact on women. While male unemployment in January remained roughly at the level of the second half of 2020 and increased by less than a third year on year, the number of women seeking employment more than doubled compared to January last year,"

Dalibor Holý, Director of the CZSO Labor Market and Equal Opportunities Department, commented on the situation.

Incumbent French President Emmanuel Jean-Michel Frédéric Macron definitely hasn't been sleeping well recently. Everyone and their mother criticizes his political decisions and he is failing in the fight against the coronavirus pandemic. The main reason for the criticism is the slow vaccination progress. Even the most influential left-wing daily in the country, Libération, is ripping into him. According to their article, Macron is losing the support of left-wing voters due to his manoeuvring between the leftists and the rightists in an effort to please everyone. It was they who had voted him into the Elysee Palace four years ago. The declining popularity of the French president is confirmed by a current poll. While Macron triumphed in the presidential election in 2017 with two-thirds of the votes, he only leads over Marine Le Pen by 4 percent today.

Paramount is working on a new sci-fi movie from the universe of Star Trek. This phenomenon has, once again, been drawing a lot of attention in recent years thanks to the Star Trek: Discovery series. The production company intends to bet on one of its screenwriters, Kalinda Vazquez. She has extensive experience in the field of TV shows - Once Upon a Time, The Living Dead, Jailbreak and more. However, this movie will be her film premiere. The five-year-old Star Trek Beyond was a big financial disappointment. Yet the subsequent series showed that the universe still has a solid fan base. Quentin Tarantino himself even started working on another Star Trek movie for a while, but the production company has not yet found a way to further develop the story. Now they seem to want to build on the success Star Trek: Discovery currently enjoys.

Swedish carmaker Volvo proves that it is serious about the goal it has recently announced. The carmaker from Gothenburg, Sweden, would like half of its turnover to come from the sale of electric cars by 2025. Now it has introduced its second fully electric model to date: the C40 Recharge. Compared to the previously introduced XC 40 Recharge, the new car's coupe has a slightly more aesthetic look. The rear of the roof curves downwards and the car looks really elegant. Like its predecessor, the new vehicle should be equipped with a sophisticated information and entertainment system, which was developed in collaboration with the technology giant Google. The power supply will be provided by a 78 kWh battery, which can be charged to 80 percent of its capacity in about 40 minutes. The initial range will be 420 km on a full charge, but Volvo expects future software updates to increase this number. Production should start by the end of this year.

And with that, Friday's Early Bird is over. We hope it brought you some interesting information. Don't let the current depressive period bring you down and try to focus on the positive. Remember the wise words of the German philosopher Arthur Schopenhauer:

"An average person is concerned about how to kill the time, a talented person seeks to use its maximum."
