Rental prices in the capital have dropped by 2.6% since the beginning of 2020. On average, a square meter now costs 300 crowns. This follows from an analysis prepared for the City of Prague by Deloitte. From a long-term perspective, Prague rental prices have been growing at a year-on-year rate of 7.4%.
"The effect of the decline in tourism and short-term rentals on rents throughout Prague is obvious, but the effect on prices in the center is most significant; moreover, not all apartments for short-term rentals are adapted for standard use. Also with regard to the current situation, there are thousands of university students in Prague who have stayed in their homes for distance learning who would otherwise be looking for housing in Prague at the end of the summer. Such factors must be taken into account if the situation begins to return to a more normal state,"
explained Prague Deputy Mayor Petr Hlaváček, who is responsible for territorial development.
The four Prague cadastral areas with the highest average rents per square meter are Malá Strana, Josefov, Nové Město (New Town) and now also Vinohrady. On the contrary, the cheapest cadastral areas include Lipence, Benice and Malá Chuchle, of the larger urban zones the lowest rent is in Zbraslav and Bohnice.
Facebook to ban ads against the Covid-19 vaccine

Opponents of vaccination will have to bow out of Facebook and Instagram. The company announced that under the new global policy, they would no longer accept adverts that discourage people from getting vaccinated. Ads that portray vaccines as dangerous or ineffective, or ads that claim that the diseases that the vaccines prevent are harmless.
"Our goal is to help messages about the safety and efficacy of vaccines reach a broad group of people, while prohibiting ads with misinformation that could harm public health efforts,"
said the company.
The new policy also applies to Instagram. Facebook said they would start introducing it in the next few days. The ban only applies to paid ads, not to regular user posts.
Actress Conchata Ferrell has died

Sad news spread around the world at midnight today. The popular actress Conchata Ferrell passed away at the age of 77. The public remembers her mainly as the cheeky housekeeper Berta from the series Two and a Half Men. However, Conchata Ferrell also shone in films such as Edward the Scissorhands and Erin Brockovich. The actress died due to complications after a heart attack and kidney infection, which she had suffered at the beginning of this year.

Australia's Great Barrier Reef has lost 50% of its coral in the last three decades. According to a new study by scientists from the ARC Center of Excellence, climate change is a key factor in reef disruption.
"We found that the number of small, medium and large corals in the Great Barrier Reef has decreased by more than 50% since the 1990s,"
said co-author Terry Hughes, a prominent professor at the ARC Center of Excellence.
Coral reefs are one of the brightest marine ecosystems on the planet, and a quarter to a third of all marine species rely on them at some point in their lives - without them, ecosystems will collapse and marine life will die.
The Great Barrier Reef, the largest coral reef in the world, is home to more than 1,500 species of fish, 411 species of hard corals and dozens of other species of animals.
