The Atlántico Museum at Playa Blanca is the only undersea museum of statues in Europe. It was opened to the public on 2nd March 2016 and divers can dive here among imposing statues created by artist Jason de Caires Taylor, famous for his undersea art. He is also behind the first undersea park on the cliffs outside Grenada in the deluxe Caribbean and the submersed museum near the coast of Mexico in Cancún. The undersea museum in Lanzarote is located in a protected landscape are not far from Coloradas, at a depth of 15 metres.
What will you be able to see on the bottom of the Atlantic Ocean? Los Jolateras is a group of children in small brass boats. You can also see the famous Raft of Lampedus, a reference to the current refugee crisis. There is a deluxe sculpture of couples called Rubikon, which consist of 35 human figures, statues. The models used for these statues are residents of Lanzarote. There are also several hybrid sculptures, half person - half cactus, which demonstrate the union between nature and humanity, existing together in harmony.
The Atlántico Museum will be built in several phases. The first phase, which consists of six various groups, has now been completed. After the entire project is completed, the Atlántico Museum will be dominated by several extensive deluxe installations and over 300 individual statues, which are designed to merge with the sea environment, raise social awareness and promote the beauty of art.
