Volkswagen, Audi and Mercedes presented their new models in the SUV class. Chevrolet introduced 2 luxurious new models which are designed for active young drivers: the Chevrolet Code 130R and the Chevrolet Tru 140S.
Volvo presented a hybrid concept of the XC60. Whereas the mass-produced petrol version should already be on sale within a few years, the fate of the hybrid version has not yet been decided.
Only one Chinese car manufacturer exhibited at the Auto Show in Detroit with its relatively unknown make GAC (Gaungzhou Automotive Corporation) and presented 3 new cars: the GS7SUV, the GE3EV and the EnSpirit concept.
Mercedes Benz also premiered its car which is regarded as the most environmentally friendly car in the world in Detroit. This is the E 300 BlueTEC HYBRID with a V4 diesel engine and an output of 150kW as well as an electric motor with an output of 20 kW. Consumption is somewhere around 4.2 litres per 100 km. This car is intended in particular for the European market, so it is possible that we will be coming across this impressive luxury vehicle in the near future.
But we won’t be seeing the other new car by Mercedes quite so soon. This is the 400 HYBRID with a V6 engine and an output of 225 kW. The reason for this is that the car is intended for the American market and also for export to China and Japan.
The Dodge Challenger sports car was introduced in Chicago in the new Mopar edition. Mercedes-Benz presented its new Metris Mastersolutions Toolbox there too, a vehicle which looks like a giant luxury child’s toy. We will certainly be seeing a scaled-down version of this in the toy shops soon.
Visitors to Chicago were also able to admire luxury sports cars by Maserati, Alfa Romeo, Lamborghini and Aston Martin. The mere opportunity to get a look at these wild kings of the road is enough for a lot of people to make them set out for these prestigious auto shows.
