On May 25, as part of the lifting of measures associated with the Covid-19 disease, the interiors of castles and chateaux finally reopened. Once again, all of us will have the opportunity to take peek inside the most beautiful places that have remained for us from history. However, both visitors and employees have to follow a set of rules.

On March 10, the National Monuments Institute decided to close all monuments open all year round and the start of the main visitor season has been postponed. The gardens and parks were reopened on May 11, and from May 25, the interiors have opened to the public as well.

However, if you want to visit any Czech chateau or castle these days, you have to wear a face mask. There should be hand disinfection next to the cash registers and at the entrances, people should avoid gathering in one place and they should keep a safe distance between each other. Where they have an information touch screen, it's unlikely to be operational and in some places the number of people per tour is limited or there are fewer tours.

However, that will certainly not discourage avid castle goers. And that's why we bring you our selection of the four most beautiful castles and chateaux in Bohemia and Moravia!

Castle Karlštejn

Karlštejn is the most famous Czech castle. It became the object of many film makers, its most famous appearance being that in the film Night at Karlštejn. The castle was built in the first half of the 14th century under Charles IV. as a place to store royal treasures. The path that leads up to it is steep, but it pays to challenge it!

State Chateau Hluboká nad Vltavou

Originally a guard castle, it was built in the middle of the 13th century. The Schwarzenbergs gave it its present appearance, having rebuilt it in the Baroque and later in the Romantic style. Doesn't this beautiful building remind you of something? The model for the reconstruction was the Royal Windsor Castle and one can definitely see the likeness! And what surprises await you here? You definitely shouldn't miss the unique collection of silver, which is an integral part of local furniture. It is magnificent, just like the entire architectural work!

State Castle Lednice

This beautiful castle with a large park is one of our most visited historical monuments. The park spans over an area of 200 hectares, which makes it one of the largest parks in Europe! You'll find here a greenhouse with palm trees, a Venetian fountain, a Chinese pavilion, a Roman aquaduct or the artificial ruins of John's Castle. Watch the current situation on the website and when you can, take a boat ride around the complex.
