The tradition of dress code, BLACK TIE, goes back to 19th century Britain where it applied that guests of significant evening social events should wear clothes of dark colours. As regards the ladies, it is a long evening gown, or a subtle, long cocktail dress. The shoes should have closed toes and an evening bag should be held in hand. The neck should be adorned by a subtle jewel. Men should wear a dinner jacket with a white shirt and a black bow tie. This of course goes with shoes of black patent leather, the jacket pocket is adorned by a handkerchief with links worn in the cuffs.
