If you are planning a trip to the spectacular Beijing, we recommend that you hold on a little longer. From September, a brand new, futuristic-looking Daxing Airport will open here, which clearly tells the world that modern architecture is in style.
Designed by talented artist Zaha Hadid, this futuristic-looking building is designed to respond to the growing interest in air travel. From a bird's eye view, the modern building of sparkling orange colour resembles an amorphous octopus shape with six curved tentacles. The design studio Zaha Hadid Architects collaborated on the project with engineers Buro Happold and airport specialists ADPI.
The building itself will be a great honour for the Beijing city district of Ta-sing where this luxury airport will be, which will located less than 50 km from the capital. A new high-speed line will be set up and bus lines from the city centre will be reinforced to allow passengers to arrive on time. The new passenger terminal will serve China Eastern Airlines and China Southern Airlines. Wondering how much money this bold 700,000 m² project cost? An impressive 370 billion crowns!
In a silent fight, China is trying to catch up to America and show its uniqueness. It seeks to acquire the first place in various economic, social and political positions. This is also evidenced by the fact that by 2040 the new Daxing Airport wants to increase the number of passengers handled to 100 million. For a better idea, the current Capital Airport handles 96 million passengers per year in Beijing. However, Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport in Atlanta, USA, still holds first place and is capable of handling 104 million passengers. Will the new Daxing International Airport in Beijing beat Atlanta? Meanwhile, it still has a big challenge ahead. A new, fully functional hall, check-in area and an aircraft technical base must be built. Currently more than 40,000 workers are trying to do this.
Fans of air travel, this will be something for you! From the centre of the terminal you can make it in 8 minutes to the furthest gates, at least so the designers guarantee. Everything is designed to make flying a comfortable and luxurious thing. All you have to do is say enjoy the journey!
