As well as the fashion collections, visitors to MBPFW also focus their attention on the models and their deluxe hairstyles, which are the work of Craig Hughan from the Stolen Studio led by the renowned Kevin Murphy brand for the eighth year running. Come and visit backstage with us!
Beautiful girls and their frequently very originally conceived makeup and trendy hairstyles are a traditional part of Fashion Week. Come and visit backstage at Prague Fashion Week with us, the place where designers and stylists prepare the final looks for you!
Stylists, hairdressers and designers frequently use various tools during their creative work, which may appear very unusual to us. The Kevin Murphy team uses playing cards to shape and fix hairstyles and they swear by this method!
We were interested how the hairstylists determine the final appearance of the hairstyle and how much they communicate with the designer. Craig Hughan, one of the founders of the Stolen Studio and the man who is in charge of the hairstyles at Fashion Week, told us how the process takes place.
“A month before the shows we meet personally with each designer and discuss their entire collection. We know many of the designers, so we listen to their ideas, which are a great inspiration to us. We enjoy supporting their ideas and developing them a little, so that the whole impression is as trendy and sexy as possible!”
According to Craig Hughan and the designers this is about creating a joint work and not about who has the last word.
But if you think that the hairstylists are the first who see the designers’ hot new models, then guess again. The clothes themselves are frequently completed just a few hours before the show itself, so the stylists are shown sketches, photographs and paintings of future collections. They familiarise themselves with the fabrics used by the designers to gain an idea of the overall ambiance, which is probably crucial for them.
Does it seem impossible? But it is! This is how long it takes to create the hairstyles of models for a show. The Stolen Studio puts together an enormous team of around 30 first-rate stylists from all the corners of the world.
“We regularly have people from America, Australia and England. We also have a lot of people from the Czech and Slovak republics, which are very happy about,” says Craig Hughan.
And finally, we had to ask a question regarding the trends for this year. The Stolen Studio promotes a natural appearance:
“The natural texture of hair is trendiest right now. We are not creating enormous volume, on the contrary. Healthy, shiny hair is in! You can forget about complicated blow drying or ironing.”
