It is a blend of two types of distillates (once and twice distilled), which are then matured in burnt oak casks, in which American whisky was previously matured. The maturing of rum in the casks is influenced by the tropical climate, to which each cask reacts differently. Therefore, rums of various ages are specially selected to give the rum its authentic and unmistakable flavour. The luxurious Mount Gay rum is made using unique methods which haven’t changed since 1703.
