The hospital at the Brno Exhibition Center in Hall G2 should be put into operation when the capacity in normal hospitals runs out. If necessary, it'll be able to accept patients starting from November 9th. The mayor of the city, Markéta Vaňková, handed it over to the representatives of the Brno University Hospital this afternoon. The task of the Brno University Hospital now is to provide the necessary medical equipment and materials and also to take care of its operation itself.
"The works began Monday morning, and although the project was modified, the entire construction was completed two days earlier than planned."
said Markéta Vaňková, referring to the fact that the construction of the hospital was originally planned for seven days.

According to her, the biggest change came from the decision to use electrically controlled positioning beds, which required the expansion and strengthening of the electrical installation. In addition, the circuits that ensure the operation of medical devices are backed up. A total of 40 beds are also equipped with oxygen cylinders.
151 cubicles for 302 beds
The backup hospital has 151 cubicles for 302 beds. These are separated by a fixed partition, which should ensure higher visual and noise comfort. A color differentiation into three sectors should help the orientation in sorting of the patients according to medical parameters. The existing social facilities in the hall will be fully utilized. Newly, the premises will be equipped with shower containers. And container toilets will also be accessible from the interior.

How to get in?
The entrance to the backup hospital will be through the 10th gate, the pedestrian entrance through the service entrance of the Brno Trade Fairs and Exhibitions (BVV) building near the Congress Center. The temporary hospital area will be fenced and guarded.

Patients will be accepted starting from November 9th
Although the construction of the hospital was completed two days earlier, the start of its operation doesn't change despite the expectations.
"Also thanks to the acquired time reserve, it's absolutely realistic that we can start accepting the first patients on November 9th, if necessary, at a time when the number of people with covid-19 is expected to peak."
Ondřej Ludka, the medical deputy of the Brno University Hospital, informed us additionally. Today, he took over the premises together with the director Jaroslav Štěrba.
The construction of the hospital was financed by the city and secured on the basis of a group instruction approved by the Brno City Council and signed by the mayor of the Brno Trade Fairs.
