Křesla a mozaika barevných kachliček od Alexandry Koláčkové

Art lovers, look here! The Sculpture line festival has recently been launched in Prague and other cities, transforming public spaces into an open-air gallery. We can admire the new avant-garde works of both Czech and foreign artists until the end of September, completely free of charge.

In addition to Prague, the Sculpture Line Festival takes place in Brno, Ostrava, Pilsen, Liberec, Olomouc, Hradec Králové, Pardubice, Broumov, Vratislavice nad Nisou, Dolní Břežany and Ratměřice this year. However, as per tradition, the capital city of Prague offers the greatest spectacle. And it is where the first installation of this year's sixth edition was placed. It is the bronze Rhinoceros in armor by Jaroslav Róna, which can be seen on Prague's Jungmann Square. The statue symbolically points to the need for world-wide protection of animals from the African wilderness.

Where else in Prague can we see the statues?

Prague has really outdone itself with these installations. If you are interested in art, you should definitely take a walk through the city and check out all the unique sculptures. A good place to start is the CEZ Group building in Michle, in front of which you'll find the Enlightenment statue by Lukáš Rittstein. Two armchairs forming a mosaic of colored tiles by Alexandra Koláčková adorn the Children's Island in Smíchov, and in addition to the artistic experience, they can be used as a climbing frame or bench, just like the Sitting Figure statue, which the author installed in the courtyard of New Town Hall.

The Piazzetta of the National Theater is guarded by a statue called Jesus Christ Super stealth and on the terrace of Mánes, we can admoire the Cosmic Child. Both statues are from Stefan Milkov. Three Cageheads by sculptor Kurt Gebauer are peeking out of the lawn in Vojanovy sady in Prague 1, and a statue of the Levitating Figure by Jakub Flejšar was erected at the Nádraží Holešovice station. The Bronze Reader in an Armchair by Jaroslav Róna has been sitting on Franz Kafka Square since last year's festival.

Art for everyone

The Sculpture Line Festival is the largest event in the Czech Republic that supports the symbiosis of sculpture and public space, thus expanding the cultural and artistic potential of the locality. The basic idea is to bring contemporary art closer to everyone without distinction and to help socialize public spaces. Therefore, the installations are concentrated even outside the main arteries, reviving lesser-known locations.
