Art Basel is an international art fair with four shows every year held in Basel in Switzerland, Miami in Florida and in Hong Kong in China. Each show is a deluxe event and is organised into sectors that present not only works of art by well-known contemporary artist, but also works by those who are just launching their careers.
And this is where you can meet the wealthiest collectors from around the world and curators of major world museums of art. Deluxe works by the most important modern and contemporary artists will be for sale. The main fair is attended by 290 selected art galleries from around the world every year. Another two hundred galleries endeavour to capture the interest of collectors at three smaller accompanying fairs. Exhibitions and events are also offered to cultural institutions in Basel and the surrounding area, where they create exciting artistic experiences and comply with the trend of pointing out the value of art.
Deluxe art and finance are considered inseparable elements. But let us go even further: what about art and crypto-currency? New relations between art and capital, which advocate today’s financial revolution in the form of crypto-finance, place the “financial value” at the heart of the creative process. All information can be obtained at the fair from representatives of this topic, such as Simon Denny, Robert Norton, Kelani Nichole or Tim Schneider, during a discussion called Blockchain. Blockchain is also the name of the technology based on crypt-currency, a little like a crypto-currency bank, which basically guarantees the uniqueness of data.
Sounds from the gutter – that is the title of the work by Hanna Weinberger, who is installing ten sound systems in the canals of Rittergasse. Each of the canals will reflect Weinberger’s specific compositions, which play “Against the everyday sounds of the city and sewers”. What do you think about it?
This is just a fragment of the varied programme, you can certainly expect countless unique works, performances and entertainment from the Film, Unlimited, Parcours, Feature, Film, Edition, Statements, Galleries and other sectors. Are you looking forward to it?
