The luxurious “valley of many cellars” is located in the eastern part of Veneto, between Verona and Lake Garda, while its northern border is defined by the Lessini Mountains. It is here that the luxurious Amarone della Valpolicella wine is made.
The Allegria family, which has been a leading winegrower in this area since the 16th Century, produces its top wine on a total number of 6 impressive vineyards, and it has passed on its valuable experience from generation to generation.
One of the most luxurious wines is Amarone de Valpolicella, which is the result of many experiments in the 1950’s. It has an intense, full-bodied taste and a higher alcohol content percentage. You can smell chocolate and cherries in it and then at the end the almond bitterness. This wine is considered to be the King of Valpolicella and it is the most prestigious wine from the Italian region of Veneto. In 2009, it received the DOCG status, which classifies it as a top-quality Italian wine. Luxury wines bearing this stamp have passed the most stringent criteria.
The wine is made from a selection of Corvinus Veronese, Rondinella and Oseleta grapes, which are dried for 100-120 days to lose all their water and to concentrate the sugars. This drying process is called “appassimento” and it represents one of the limited and finer phases of Amarone production. All the sugars ferment to dryness, while the illusion of sweetness remains. Prior to its consumption, it stays in barrels for at least 2 years, while some manufacturers wait for up to 5 years.
In accordance with the vintage you can buy this luxurious wine for an amount of around CZK 3,000.
The area of Valpolicella covers 240 km², and of these approximately 6,000 hectares are reserved for the vineyards. The area that is best suited for producing high quality and prestigious wines is called Valpolicella Classico. The climate is temperate with average precipitation of 900-1100 mm per annum and you will find mainly calcareous soils there.
There are several small streams in the territory and the entire surrounding landscape enhances the magical impression. In addition to attractive country panoramas, you will also be enchanted by the ancient parish churches and the luxurious Renaissance villas.
