A return to his family roots has led to creation of bold Parisian chic. Joseph Altuzarra was born in Paris to a French father and Chinese-American mother. He founded the luxury Altuzarra brand in New York, where he also mostly works. While creating the SS 2018 collection, Altuzarra decided to return to his family roots and took partial inspiration from the city of Paris. In combination with other inspiration, he showcased the chic SS 2018 collection during Paris Fashion Week.
The talented designer did not want to create something purely French. For this reason, apart from the stylish city of Paris, he also took inspiration from the Japanese film Princess Mononoke. This examines the conflict between nature and industry, which Joseph Altuzarra tried to also introduce into his collection. He has combined sophisticated urban silhouettes with handicrafts and for example among other thing included a crochet feature in the collection. He also found inspiration in the photo from the cover of the book by Charles Fréger – Wilder Mann: The Image of The Savage.
The aesthetic Altuzarra brand presented some stylish jackets and waistcoats with fur, simple tops, blouses and elegant narrow trousers. The most luxurious items are the sexy dresses and skirts with high splits which stand out with their designs, creativity and several unusual appliqués. Pompoms and fringes liven things up wonderfully and deserve our applause!
The models with black mesh which Joseph Altuzarra used to open the luxurious and highly-anticipated show aroused slight confusion. The clothing evoked the impression that the models had forgotten to put on some of their clothes. But what followed blew away any confusion the audience may have been labouring under. A great show, expectations fulfilled and a successful finale. The fashion designer ended his magnificent show with a collection of luxurious glittering dresses in black, red, gold and silver.
Right at the very start, I have to admit that until now, the designer Joseph Altuzarra was completely unknown to me. Yes, I know you shouldn’t admit things like that to be tactful, but what is the point in lying. Nevertheless, the work this man performed in the Spring/Summer 2018 collection completely astounded me! It is literally a myriad of unique things on one catwalk.
I myself know that I am a harsh critic at times, but I have nothing bad to say about this work of art (I couldn’t call it anything else). Well, maybe apart from those striking earrings-clips, but other than that, absolutely nothing bad to say at all.
I was already won over in the first part of the show by the striped blouse/vest with striped trousers. The cream belt wonderfully lightened up the overall impression given by the black-and-white combination and lent it the required flair. I also liked almost all of the vests and leather jackets with fur edging. Together with embroidery and accessories this is again an extremely effective affair.

The blouse combined with a long skirt: to a work meeting, for lunch with friends in Café Savoy or for Sunday brunch in the Municipal House.
The flared dress with pompoms: a Sunday party at Chateau Mcely or an evening picnic in the open air.
The brightly glittering evening gown: a large corporate event, a party or Fashion Week.
