Germany has faced the migration crisis caused by the war events in Syria in 2015. Currently, however, the country is planning to tighten its asylum policy and border controls will become a common occurrence when crossing borders. The attack on a mentally deranged perpetrator, allegedly an Afghani, on children and a random passer-by plays a role in this. Below the line, a debate is developing about the breakdown of security in Germany and an informational embargo on migrant aggression.
The issue invites a look under the hood. The issue of concealing migrant crime and other integration problems is a popular strawman. A beautiful example will be offered by the X network, when for example an unnamed user accuses the ODS of silence in this direction. Perhaps a short memory.
Petr Fiala (ODS) at a time when he symptomatically wore his head cropped very short, for example embarked in the accused year to address the situation on the Hungarian border. Although he was to represent a certain liberalization among conservatives in the ODS, his attitude to migration hinted that in this regard he is closer to Tomio Okamura than to a non-existent Czech politician promoting migration of people from Muslim countries to the Czech Republic.
It's a bit like the favorite catchphrase of Štěpán Kozub, where the comedian desires to spice up a sharper joke by saying something that can't be said nowadays. He happily continues to say it, there are books with his picture in the window, his films are on TV and he can continue to perform for a large audience in halls.
We also learned about the recent brutal attack by an Afghan in Germany, just like about the raid of a Syrian doctor at markets in Magdeburg. The problem, on the one hand, is hushed up, and on the other, it paints a fairly scary picture of unmanageable brutality of people who have immigrated to Germany. Are these concepts or impressions?
The context of the problem will be clarified by statistics. For example, in the Czech Republic, 13,115 violent acts were committed in 2023. If we read about each one in the media, we would have to handle about 35 reports with this criminal content every day, even on weekends. The impression is quite terrifying and a logical interpretation would suggest that violence is a daily routine in our country and living in the Czech Republic is dangerous.
However, the same source also offers a partial comparison with other European countries in 2022. This time in terms of the number of murders per 100,000 inhabitants. According to this comparison, the Czech Republic is the 8th safest. Germany is one place better off, and surprisingly, Italy is the safest. Our country, with its thousands of violent individuals, is generally very safe, which is also evidenced by the daily behavior of people.
Not every violent criminal act is immediately a murder, yet in 2022 in the Czech Republic, according to statistics, over 80 murders occurred. In Germany, with a lower ratio but a larger population, almost 600 murders. Reading media information about each of them could also lead to the impression that these are very dangerous countries.
These data speak of the impressions evoked by one message about a brutal act and the omission of concepts about what is really happening in society. But they lost the incriminated migrants. The problem with them is also faced by the newly baked American president and is preparing to solve the tragedy with migrant crime. It makes sense. The newcomer is exposed to a number of complications in a foreign country, led by the xenophobia of the old settlers, and so it offers to vent anger in a violent form.
Scientists from Stanford University in the US decided to study data on the crime rates of new immigrants compared to "white Americans." Unfortunately, state's traditional residents have fared worse. However, Donald Trump's administration is preparing to deport immigrants so that they do not commit this crime.
Even in the 21st century, people's worldview is shaped not by science and data but by myths, much like in ancient Greece where people believed that fire was brought by Prometheus, not physics.
