In July in 2002 a new generation of Mercedes-Benz class E became known also as a result of its role in the Hollywood blockbuster, Men in Black 2. The machine was specially adapted to help agents Kay and Jay in dangerous car chases. Of course it also played its role in the most thrilling parts of the film. Will Smith branded the Mercedes-Benz E-Class as “the new hottest“!
It was a marketing cooperation of MB, Columbia TriStar and Sony Pictures Entertainment Group, to be followed by further marketing activities, including for example the online game Become a MIB Agent. In the Czech Republic the film had a première 11. July at the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival (MFF KV).
The film The Hangover from 2009 immediately won its audience over thanks to its unforgettable witty scenes. However, an attentive viewer, aficionado of luxury cars would shed a tear. The screenplay had no mercy on the luxury cabriolet Mercedes 280 SE from 1965, which featured in the movie. A total of five were used when shooting the film, but initially only two were supposed to be destroyed. After the film was completed, two of them were auctioned and the proceeds went to charity. One of the cars was soon after the auction for sale on E-bay with a price tag of USD 95,000.
The same model as in The Hangover, but from 1969, was used in the film Bridget Jones´s Diary in 2001.
The uniquely processed film, Sin City, directed by Frank Miller and Robert Rodriguez at the time of its release split the audiences into two camps. Some loved it from the first moment, others regarded it as absolute trash. Whichever side you are on, you must admit that the choice of vehicles for this controversial movie was excellent. In addition to Lincoln Continental and Cadillac it featured an exclusive black Mercedes-Benz 420 SEL from 1990.
Luxurious vehicles simply go with the legendary James Bond movies like bacon and eggs. While Dianna Rigg as Tracy DiVincenzo in the picture On Her Majesty´s Secret Service chases the fantastic Mercury XR7 on ice in order to impress James Bond (George Lazenby), they are pursued by a luxury Mercedes-Benz 220 S.
